The chicken

Currently the article goes into great detail about Flynt's relations with a chicken. The graphic description provided by User:Hosadmin has been shortened twice, but then brought back both times by Hosadmin. Since I don't really feel like getting in a revert war over chicken rape tonight I'm posting the issue here so it can be discussed and refined.

Hosadmin's original version is: "According to Flynt's autobiography, he first had sex with a chicken. He'd heard from older boys that a chicken's egg bag was just as hot as a girl's pussy. Grabbing one of his grandmother's hens, he stuck his penis into its egg bag, and banged away. When he let the chicken go, it staggered away squawking and bleeding. Fearing that someone might ask questions, Larry caught the bird, wrung its neck and threw it in the river."

I'm hoping it can be shortened to something like: "According to Flynt's autobiography, he first had sex with a chicken. He'd heard from older boys that sex with with chicken was similar in sensation to sexual intercourse with a woman. He proceeded to rape one of his grandmother's chickens, killing it afterwards to avoid any suspicion."

Lawsuit and shooting

During a legal battle related to obscenity in Gwinnett County, Georgia on March 6, 1978, he and his lawyer Gene Reeves Jr were shot outside the county courthouse in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The white supremacist Joseph Paul Franklin confessed to the shooting while serving life in prison for a separate crime; he said he was outraged by an interracial photo shoot in Hustler. Franklin was never brought to trial because Flynt and his lawyer said they didn't want to press charges of aggravated assault against a man already serving six life sentences for murder. Flynt later told Althea, his wife at the time, that he thought the CIA shot him. But some inside the porn industry knew the Mob was angry that Flynt had been distributing his own magazine and decided to send him a serious message. Flynt's injuries left him paralyzed from the waist down. The injury caused him intense constant pain and Flynt was addicted to painkillers until multiple surgeries deadened the affected nerves.

OK. This paragraph starts out OK, but the second half of it seems a little far-fetched and somewhat ambiguous. Does it mean that the mob was sending Flynt a message by shooting him, and that Franklin confessed spuriously, or is that just nonsense written by some random user?--Vercalos 02:29, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, it appears the part about Franklin was just added after everything else. It makes it sound like Franklin confessed or was known as the shooter immediately too, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't until many years later that he came forward. Naming him as the shooting and then going on about just one theory at the time (I imagine there were more) also doesn't make sense. I guess you could put the part about his injuries after the "Georgia" line and then keep the Franklin part (which could be changed to "The white supremacist Joseph Paul Franklin LATER confessed..."), and remove the "Flynt later told Althea" part, that way it's all easy.

what is mr. flynt's actual level of spinal injury? "paralyzed from the waist down" is the kind of thing people who know nothing about spinal cord injury write. few paras are really injured in that way.

I know (i'm going to assume your from the USA) that in your country there are anti-smoking, nazi, 'we know whats best for everyone', liberals, that completely contradict the meaning of the political stance they say they believe in. Unsourced Claims & Original Research? (was: World Series of Poker)

I could find no source for the statement that Flynt was banned from the tournament for life, merely that he finished in 8th place. Additionally, the original paragraph set forth by 69.197.254.56 contained some original research, which was what prompted me to take a look at the paragraph to begin with. I'll reprint it here for reference's sake:

In 2000 Flynt was banned from the World Series of Poker for life after making the final table in a seven card stud event and offering players money (more then they would win if they won the tournament) if they dumped chips to him thus making him the seven card stud champ that year. The title of champion was apparently worth a lot more to Flynt then 200k in prize money. Jack Binion apparently got wind of this and banned Larry for life. Flynt wound up finishing in 8th place.

Really, this seems to be just one in a series of unsourced and unverifiable claims made in this article. It could really use a bit of work and some more citations. Nortelrye 07:08, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough. The World Series of Poker paragraph was the first one, and I decided to be bold and remove it. The second one is this paragraph:

He published a magazine about the results, entitled The Flynt Report. His investigations eventually led to the resignation of incoming House speaker Bob Livingston.

There's no source for this, and there isn't one on Bob Livingston's article either.

Thirdly, this paragraph:

He also accused Congressman Bob Barr of having committed perjury when testifying about his wife's abortion."

There does not appear to be a source for this one, either. There is also no citation for Flynt calling himself "a smut peddler who cares".

I agree, it's just good to have specifics. We can try looking/waiting for sources for a bit, then remove the material if nothing substantial arises; or you can even remove them now, and ask that sources be provided before they are included again.

You're right, I should have been more specific before I slapped the OR template at the top of the article. I'll try not to be so rash in the future. Synpathy for Larry Flint

Somewhat off topic, I understand. I was shocked to find out the terrible past of Larry Flynt, especially the chicken and the disowning of his well-intentioned daughter. I pray for Mr. Flynt's well-being, but understand that he is not a good person and has commited countless atrocities and said comments of a distonctly antihomosexual, female-subjectifying, and even antisemetic nature (if the third one can be confirmed).

A man that can make liberals and conservatives cringe all in one go.

Picture of Althea

Hi,

I'm new to Wikipedia, and I don't know what is considered copyrighted or what isn't. I uploaded pictures taken from an TV interview for another page and they were deleted because they said it was copyrighted material, however I've seen many pictures coming from TV on other pages and they are not getting deleted.

I have a old Hustler magazine from 1979 where there is a headshot (picture) of Althea Leisure, I could scan it and post it here, but would it be considered copyrighted material? I also have a picture of Larry and Althea together when they met in 1971, I don't know where it's from...

I entered the informations as requested, in the "|Source=" field I entered that it was a picture ripped of a TV interview I took from a DVD I own, but I left the "|Permission=" field blank. That picture was taken from a DVD yet it isn't getting deleted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AnnMargrock.jpg The problem might be that I didn't know what type of licensing enter so I choose "GFDL content created by the uploader" in the drop list... The picture of Althea that I want to upload was published in a magazine in the early eighties, what type of licensing can I choose for that?

Assessment

Wikiproject Kentucky calls this B-Class, Wikiproject Biography calls this Start-Class. I'm going to call this B-Class, because I believe it "Has several of the elements described in "start", usually a majority of the material needed for a comprehensive article." Specifically it has a number of useful pictures, multiple comprehensive subheadings, and lots of external links to references. In 1994 Flynt bought a Gulfstream II private jet, that jet was used in the movie The People vs. Larry Flynt. in 2005 he replaced it with a Gulfstream IV.

State of the Article

I'm really surprised at the state of this article; it's kind of in shambles. I removed a passage that was copied directly from it's source, which also had more to do with Hustler magazine than Flynt himself, anyway. Deatonjr (talk) 22:27, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

In the article it states that 18 is the minimum age for a pornographic or erotic model, but in Larry_Flynt#Criticisms_of_Larry_Flynt it states, "December 1978, Hustler published photographs of naked children as young as three-years of age in sex scenes alongside an article, 'Children, Sex and Society,' advocating an end to age of consent, calling for acceptance of adult-child sex, and legalization of incest. In February 1975 in an article entitled 'Adolescent Fantasy' an uncle is photographed sexually with his niece. October 1976 a naked girl scout is photographed soliciting sex in August 1981, a nude young girl, photographed with her dollies, saying to the viewer; 'You would be surprised what a little girl can do. ...'

That was the claim made by Judith A. Reisman. I was shocked as well, so I looked into it and found the truth to be less sensational. That issue of Hustler has a Book Review of "The Sex Atlas" containing a lengthy excerpt on sex and society, which includes a naturist picture from the book of a nude 5 and 7 year old taken by their mother. There was a legal battle about this, Faloona v. Hustler, that I included in the article. Complete rewrite of his biography section

I completely rewrote his "Bio" section, adding a lot more information about his childhood and first enterprises. The old section contained some false information, everything I wrote came directly from his autobriography so it's 100% possible to verify. I hope the tone is appropriate. Copy Editing

I wrote the Hustler Magazine section (and the "Childhood" and "First Enterprises" sections) but only the first paragraph, the rest was already there, it must be those section who need copy editing... Suggesting revision of sentence:

the rather than paying his taxes is completely unclear to me, and seems to have been inserted by [chaos]. If he indeed had something with his taxes, it should be made clear in a separate sentence, and not linked back to financing magazines (unless this actually was the case, in which case it needs to be clarified).

Falwell v. Flynt

I think this section should include Flynt's countersuit of Falwell for illegally distributing copyrighted material (the depiction of Falwell and his mother) to raise money for the suit without Flynt's expressed permission.

Larry H. Parker

This article claims that Richard Parker, a fan of Flynt, named his child (well-known attorney) Larry H. Parker after him. Yet Larry H. Parker does not seem to fall in the proper age group for this claim. How old is he in relation to Flynt?

Wrong year on Tinsley's conviction?

Criticism section unbalanced and inflammatory

tinsley's convistion was overturned. If his conviction is going to be referenced the conviction being overturned must be referenced and cited in the interest of balance. Larry Flynt AND Jerry Falwell

It is probably worth adding something about Larry Flynt subsequent relationship with Jerry Falwell. They met on Larry King Live in 1997 when Jerry embraced Larry Flynt. They became unlikely friends. (strange bedfellows?) Including something on this makes both of them seem more reasonable and human. Source is Larry's opinion piece in the LA Times after Jerry Falwell's death in 2007.

There's nothing to "see below" that's at all related...

His name

His real first name on his birth certificate is not "Larry", it's "Lawrence", so in my opinion at the beginning of the article we should read "Lawrence Claxton Flynt, Jr." and not "Larry Claxton Flynt, Jr.", larry was just a familiar name used by his friends, it stuck when he became famous... I tried to make that reasonable change a few times in the past but the change have always been reverted...
