[edit]I thought the comment that Laotian Americans would take on Thai identities so they can make Thai Restaurants interesting. I know more Thai Americans but that's probably because I'm Thai. But I know we have similar cultures and language. I wonder why Laotians would make Thai restaurants though because I personaly prefer Lao food and wish I could get more than the paltry offerings in the corner of a menu at a Thai restaurant. Sadly there are no Laotian restaurants in the Washington DC area.
this is because The DC area probably has a low concentration of Laotians.
Oklahoma may have a large population of Laotians in the south, but it doesn't even rank in the top 10 states with the highest laotian population and shouldn't be included in the infobox unless more deserving areas are included
- you seem to be correct, according to http://www.hmongstudies.org/LaoCensusData.html, these are the top ten: 1. California – 55,456 2. Texas – 10,114 3. Minnesota – 9,940 4. Washington – 7,974 5. North Carolina – 5,313 6. Illinois – 5,235 7. Georgia – 4,531 8. Wisconsin – 4,469 9. Oregon – 4,391 10. Tennessee – 4,214
improper wording
[edit]i'd like to know if there is validity to the term, "Laotian" who deemed this the correct term to describe people from the country of Laos?
i myself am a first generation Lao-American and find the term "Laotian" as incorrect terminology and slightly offensive and degrading. people in the country of Laos are Lao people, the food and cuisine are Lao, the culture is Lao - so why is there constant usage of the term "Laotian"?
who can i contact about making these changes? Jindapee (talk) 18:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- Lao people can also be Thai nationals. Both Laotian and Lao are correct terms in English to refer to people from Laos (although I think "Lao" is the only correct term to refer to the ethnic group). Saimdusan Talk|Contribs 06:30, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

FYI, the nomination process is now over, and the voting period has began. Due to lack of nominations the slot for Laotian female representative is vacant, and will need further discussion sometime after voting has been concluded. The voting period will last until 4 December 2009. --RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 20:11, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
