COI & name in lede

[edit]

Hi @Usena321:, I thought it would be better to move our conversation here from my talk page, to the article's talk page. You stated that you are a representative of Campbell from her team, and that information needs to be disclosed before you make edits on behalf of the subject. This will be helpful with editing in the future. If you are being paid to make these edits, then you need to disclose that as well (read more on that at Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure). As for the use of her title as the daughter of an earl in the lede, that is customary, as it is for names in the lede, titles of the page, and titles of the infobox to match (for example, please see Lady Kitty Spencer, Lady Mary Charteris, & Lady Amelia Windsor). Not to mention the naming conventions using WP:COMMONNAME i.e. Meet Lady Jean Campbell, the Model With Rapunzel Hair, Lady Jean Campbell Is The Next Noble-Turned-Model To Watch, Lady Jean Campbell Is the Next Top British Model, etc. I have reverted your edit but made additions to the lede to specify that Campbell is known professionally without her title. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 13:38, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Willthacheerleader18; My apologies for not disclosing my professional association with Campbell earlier. I will ensure to include this information when making any future revisions/edits. Thank you for your additions to the lede to specify how Jean is known professionally. However, our intention with my earlier revisions is to remove her title in the lede entirely to align with both her personal and professional preferences. Jean has never referred to herself by title in these contexts, nor is she known by this title in the industry. Therefore, removing her title on Wikipedia, a significant professional platform and encyclopedia, is appropriate. Furthermore the articles mentioned were written several years ago, and do not reflect how Jean refers to herself, nor how others address her in both professional and social contexts. Many thanks - U Usena321 (talk) 15:27, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Usena321: You do not need to include your connection in individual edit summaries. Instead, please click here and follow the directions to disclose your connection to the subject (and if you are being paid, do the same here). As for removing "Lady" altogether.. she is the daughter of an earl and has been referred to as Lady Jean Campbell by the media, so I am unsure what should/can be done or how best to move forward in this discussion. @Walco1: may I ask for your advice in regards to this situation, since I believe you were responsible for the original article move? -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 17:35, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Willthacheerleader18: and @Usena321:, I made the move under the impression given by the articles linked above that it was Campbell's common name. If this is not case, and it can be supported with sources independent of the subject, I have no objections to the article being moved. In my opinion, mention should be named in the lead or at least somewhere in the article of Campbell having the title, as she is occasionally referred to as such. Walco1 (talk) 02:51, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi both @Willthacheerleader18 @Walco1 I think what would be best is to remove her title from her name on the lede and the statement 'known professionally as Jean Campbell', and simply put "Jean Campbell". Her title can be mentioned/referred to elsewhere in the article but not in the main title. Similar to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_III. Also, here are two recent articles which do not reference her title https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/model-jean-campbell-on-living-with-chronic-pain-jk25l0mdl and https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/jean-campbell-intentions. Thank you! Usena321 (talk) 10:49, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Usena321: I take no issue with moving the page from "Lady Jean Campbell" to "Jean Campbell (model)" or something similar (it cannot be Jean Campbell as that is a disambiguation page). But I do believe her title belongs in the lead, as it is her title. Similar to the article on Sophie Winkleman aka Lady Frederick Windsor. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 14:14, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Willthacheerleader18, Thank you for your comments. I have now made a page request for Jean Campbell (Model). Usena321 (talk) 12:18, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
