Demographics

[edit]

The figure of 20,000-25,00 Kurds in the UK seems an astonishingly low estimate to me. Does anyone know where the Kurdish Institute got those figures from? Gerry Lynch 16:48, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately I do not know where they got those figures from. Some other figures also seem low estimate to mee too.

Mesopotamia 16:54, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you Gerry Lunch. Those numbers seem false to me too. I'm a Kurd from Sweden and according to those numbers there are 30,000 Kurds in Sweden. But most sources I've seen says there are about 100,000 Kurds in Sweden and that looks more realistic to me. I'm sure there aren't less than 60,000 Kurds in Sweden.

Jordan?

CIA figures in lead

[edit]

"Turkish 70-75%, Kurdish 18%, other minorities 7-12% (2008 est.)"CIA Factbook Note that this is a 2008 estimate. The population is stated to be "79,414,269 (July 2015 est.)" The footnote also has an estimate from a 2002 book, given publication times the estimate is probably from 2001, ie 15 years old.

In other words, the Kurdish population of Turkey IN 2008 was estimated to be 18%. But what was the population then? Our article on Demographics of Turkey says 71,517,100 and one of the sources, an official Turkish one, verifies that. So, 12,873,078 Kurds, approximately. False numbers

[edit]

The estimate of the number of Kurds according to the CIA FB is obviously outdated (from 2008 as state above). But even if we take those percentage rates from 2008 (although Kurds reportedly have a higher fertility rate than non-kurdish people in Turkey and Iran), it would result in the following numbers as of 2020: - Turkey at least 15 million (18% out of the current 82-84 million inhabitants) - Iran at least 8 million (10% out of the current 82-84 million inhabitants) - Iraq about 6 to 8 million (15-20% out of the curent 39-40 million Iraqis) - Syria about 2 million

And these are the lowest estimates one can make. There are figures who point out a population of Kurds close to 22 million in Turkey, 12 million in Iran, 8 million in Iraq, and 3 million in Syria. One should highlight this fact in the article instead of plainly using one source and depicting it as the universal source of all knowledge. Besides, the source in the article is overly outdated, as mentioned above. The kurdish population approximately doubles every 40 years. So in the last 12 years the population should have increased about 20%. Therefore I kindly ask for better and especially current sources and numbers. In addition, the figure on the kurdish diaspora is inaccurate. Recently, there are more than 1.5 million Kurds in Germany alone. --2.244.116.104 (talk) 10:42, 22 April 2020 (UTC) T. Oppenheimer[reply]

Perhaps we need more recent numbers but we should refrain from OR. The intro could be updated with these numbers nonetheless with later CIA estimates 2014 CIA estimate. --Semsûrî (talk) 11:59, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is a undefined refname in the Europe table of the Statistics by country section. It was introduced by this edit, which changed the refname but not the refname on the original reference.(see the edit details for clarity)
The following:

[edit]

Under the diaspora section, "There were also many Kurds among the Kurdish diaspora and in Red Kurdistan" uses the Kurdish diaspora link, which is just a link to itself. This is redundant, so please change the sentence to read "There were also many Kurds among the Kurdish diaspora and in Red Kurdistan", without the link to itself.

Additionally, under the North America section of the Diaspora section, it reads "In the United States, it is believed that the Kurdish population is from 15,000 to 20,000. other sources claim approximately 58,000", when it really should read "In the United States, estimates of the Kurdish population vary from 15,000 to 20,000 to 58,000", which fixes the punctuation problem and the strange ranking of the sources. The references should be moved accordingly. Thank you!

A reference is needed. Semsûrî (talk) 14:16, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Balkeesh and rudaw both said this they are trust worthy kurdish sources Hogirkurdish15 (talk) 14:22, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Plus kurdish wikipedia says the same thing but i don`t know why this one doesn`t say the same Hogirkurdish15 (talk) 14:24, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We need a reliable reference, preferably from the Kurdish institute in Switzerland or a link from Rudaw. Semsûrî (talk) 14:49, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.rudaw.net/sorani/kurdistan/0505202215 this is the link from rudaw but i just want to say when it comes to kurds or kurdish google kind of isn`t that good Hogirkurdish15 (talk) 15:29, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rudaw is not WP:RS for this matter, and the figures themselves are a clear instance of WP:FRINGE, almost doubling those estimated by sources a few years ago, especially for the population in Turkey, Iran, Syria, and more than quadrupling those in various other countries such as Kazakhstan (in this case, more than 18 times!). For further reference, Rudaw is widely known as KDP-affiliated and was deemed unreliable for certain figures previously as per here, and recent studies continue pointing out the bias of Rudaw towards KDP. Aintabli (talk) 17:55, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well there is something about kurdish papulation some say 20 to 25 some say 30 to 30 and other say 40 to 45 it kind of is problem i will try to find other sources if i find them i will tell you The population of the Kurdish people is a topic that has been subject to varying estimates, leading to discrepancies in reported numbers. The reason for this discrepancy can be attributed to several factors, including political considerations, differing methodologies in data collection, and the complex historical and geographical dispersion of the Kurdish population Hogirkurdish15 (talk) 20:23, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On Wikipedia, we use “reliable” sources, especially on such topics, not what “some say and others say.” You have made some unsourced changes on other articles, so it is crucial that you read WP:RS, WP:FRINGE, etc. before continuing to edit Wikipedia. Aintabli (talk) 20:44, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah sorry but i meant even this one in wikipedia is on some say thing Hogirkurdish15 (talk) 22:53, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but if i can`t use some sources like rudaw which is like a big source its like bbc of kurds then what should i use sorry i am a bigginer Hogirkurdish15 (talk) 22:55, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem Hogirkurdish15. We all make mistakes. Specialized WP:NPOV academic sources from reliable publishers are better in comparison to non-neutral news sites and fringe claims. Aintabli (talk) 23:01, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aintabli btw can i make an articale by myself like make one about a celebrity or something Hogirkurdish15 (talk) 23:21, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
