Spelling
[edit]Is this ('krumholtz') the accepted spelling in the field. The Oxford English Dictionary uses the spelling 'krummholz'. Stumps (talk) 00:14, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- "Krumholtz Effect" would be a better title. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyberplasm (talk • contribs) 00:34, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
- Krummholz is also the German name, with Krumholtz reminding more of a family name, like of David Krumholtz, who hogs the first pages of Google hits for Krumholtz. And when adding "wood", his movies with Elijah Wood pop up. On the other hand, Krummholz wood finds scientific papers. So, requesting a move there at WP:RM. -- Matthead Discuß 13:11, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Note
[edit]I can't find a reference, maybe somebody can. There must be an advantage to expose the roots to the sun when the soil is frozen. Above freezing point, there must be a advantage to have the roots under shadows so as to keep their soil moist. The dwarf-shrub (Zwergstrauchstufe) above tree line occurs because the plant (conifers) is under stress from the frozen roots. The neddle leave tops dry out in the sun.
