Northwest KOA-SEA
[edit]I was looking at the current Northwest timetable and it shows a non-stop daily flight from KOA to SEA. But no service, non-stop or direct from SEA to KOA. Anyone know what is up? 24.113.22.73 07:11, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
ORD and OGG on UA
[edit]The United flight to Chicago is either seasonal or discontinued. Does not show in their schedules any more. It used to go from Chicago to OGG, then KOA and the back to ORD W Nowicki (talk) 23:33, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
- Don't quote me on this, but I believe it is seasonal. Viriditas (talk) 10:44, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Forgot to follow up on this. Indeed, United Flight 3 press release is a seasonal service that flies from Chicago nonstop to Maui. However, the runway at Kahului is not quite long enough for the fully-loaded 777 plane to take off with safety margin, so they fly to Kona first, fill up, and then go nonstop back to Chicago. That is, one short hop and two very long hops. I see it listed on the UA web site today, for example. People have been putting this in and taking it out over the years from this article, saying it is "not notable". I think it probably should merit a mention since it would save much brownian motion. W Nowicki (talk) 21:32, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- United lists OGG-KOA in their schedule and it is bookable on united.com, so Kona should be listed as a United destination on the Kahului Airport article. If it's seasonal it should be denoted as such, but it can be difficult to tell just from looking at the schedule changes as they happen whether a new service or service ending is seasonal or not. Since there is no KOA-OGG flight (they're codeshare flights operated by Hawaiian or Island Air) on United, Kahului should not be listed as a United destination on this article. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 23:05, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Move to full name?
[edit]A quick question, does anyone know whether or not it is appropriate to move this page (Kona International Airport) to its full name, Kona International Airport at Keāhole? Or should I leave it at just Kona International Airport? I want to make sure before I make a decision. Thanks. NHRHS2010 the student pilot ✈ 01:07, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- The current title, which shows the most common name for the airport, appears appropriate per WP:COMMONNAME. 72Dino (talk) 02:44, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed. I've been traveling through KOA for a long time and nobody I know refers to it as Kona International Airport at Keāhole. Travis Thurston+ 03:31, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I just refer it as "Kona Airport" myself and I don't think placing "Keahole" in the title is even necessary. NHRHS2010 the student pilot ✈ 04:59, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

International flights
[edit]I'm a little bit confused about the international flight situation here. In the History section it mentions that Japan Airlines operated the only international service to the big island yet in the list of destinations it shows that WestJet flies to Vancouver. Obviously one of these conflicting statements is incorrect so would someone with a better knowledge of the airport be able to assist? Forentitalk 11:48, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Just modified the history section statement to state "only international service outside of North America", which matches the statement made in the referenced source. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 23:33, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Kona International Airport → Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole – The airport has been renamed after Ellison Onizuka since January 1, 2017 as per http://www.bizjournals.com/pacific/news/2017/01/03/kona-international-airport-takes-on-new-name-for.html 97.85.118.142 (talk) 06:02, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose for now per common name as it is unlikely for the time being to be refered to by such a long name outside of official documentation, the FAA still use Kona International Airport at Keahole. MilborneOne (talk) 08:21, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. The change of official name is of course irrelevant (read that essay first and then have another read of the policy if unconvinced). No evidence that the common name has changed, and as noted above it seems unlikely. The article cited by nom appears to be a press release, reprinted without analysis, and as such is a primary source and of no great significance. Andrewa (talk) 06:24, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose for now per common name, but a comment that it may take some time for the requested name change to work its way through the federal bureaucracy and from there into common usage. HNL's FAA name change took about a year from the time the Legislature's resolution was adopted, and of course its common usage transition is ongoing. We may need to revisit this in a few months, if/when the FAA gives its stamp of approval. KeithH (talk) 18:49, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
