Lead
[edit]The lead says that knitted fabric is "the third major class of fabric, after woven and non-woven." Is it really appropriate to list knitting as the "third", as if there's some order? I think it might be better to simply say that knitted fabric is a major class of fabric, and that others include woven and non-woven. I'd be bold and make the change, but first I wanted to check with other editors to make sure that there's isn't some order or something. – DroEsperanto(talk|contribs) 03:00, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
incomplete
[edit]This article is mostly about fabric knit by a single person using hand needles or a small machine. It needs to include information about industrial knitting and define terms such as single-knit and double-knit. 4.248.222.85 (talk) 21:22, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Re-make and Focus This Article
[edit]This article should limit itself to industrial knitted fabric and its uses in the fashion industry.
Hand knitting has many good articles on Wikipedia (Knitting, List of knitting stitches, Knitting abbreviations, Basic knitted fabrics, History of Knitwear, etc.), there is even an article on machine knitting, but none on industrial knitted and it use in the fashion industry.
As such, much of the content of this article should be removed. Examined section-by-section: Structure of knitted fabrics: There is a better and far more comprehensive description of knit fabric structure in the "Knitting" article. Reference it. Knitting stitches: There is a better and more comprehensive description in the "knitting stitches" article. Reference it. Composition of knitted fabrics: This is a flat assertion with no reference and should be removed from Wikipedia. History of knitwear: This has a few selective facts and all are from very recent industrial knitted fabric used in the fashion history. Expand this to make it the focus of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.29.43.1 (talk) 18:21, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
