Coat of arms

Although in principle I support the inclusion of the coat of arms in the infobox, the current image is, in my view, of an unacceptably poor quality for inclusion in WP, particularly in such a prominent position on a busy article. Unless a better quality replacement can be found I feel that the current image should be removed. Rangoon11 (talk) 11:21, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Admittedly it is not of high quality, but it does not look too bad to me in thumbnail form. My view is that if there is nothing else available, this is better than nothing at all.
Why not propose it for deletion and see if there is a consensus? LynwoodF (talk) 16:08, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
It looks pretty awful on my screen (standard laptop size). What would be far better of course is if anyone has access to a higher quality version to replace it with. Rangoon11 (talk) 17:51, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

History section

I was very disappointed with the thinness of the History section. The University has grown up over a period of more than a century. I first came to Kingston in the 60s to work at Kingston College of Technology. At some point Kingston Technical College had split into Kingston College of Further Education and the College of Technology. In 1970 the College of Technology joined with Kingston College of Art to form one of the first of the new Polytechnics. Later Kingston Polytechnic absorbed Gipsy Hill College of Education, which had been run by the Inner London Education Authority and occupied the Kingston Hill site.

Surely all of this and much more is recorded somewhere which can be used as a source. Perhaps not - the official website seems to have nothing about the history at all. LynwoodF (talk) 16:26, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

I have now discovered that there is something about the history on the website, but it is poorly signposted. LynwoodF (talk) 16:42, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
I agree with you. I noticed how "thin" that section was last year and thought about trying to improve it, but sources on the subject seemed to be very thin on the ground. I now see that the university has A History of Kingston University by Professor Michael Gibson on their website which I hadn't seen before. It looks like a good source for expanding that section. Voceditenore (talk) 20:21, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes, it was Prof. Gibson's history that I came upon, more or less by accident. Browsing through it, I found it looked pretty good, certainly for the Lawley period, when I was there. LynwoodF (talk) 22:00, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

A recent edit has jogged my memory of events in 1970. The Minister of State who handed over the official document at the ceremony was Gerald Fowler. Prof. Gibson does not mention this in his excellent history, so I have no source to quote and am recording it here. LynwoodF (talk) 18:51, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Thinness of the controversy section

Having now read around the subject a little, after stumbling across a running argument, I am curious to know why the Fredrics vs Kingston controversy is not included here. Especially since the case was thrown out by District Judge Kreiman sitting at the Kingston Magistrates Court, and there was some reasonable media attention for it. Prominent faculty

Steve Keen is prominent enough to have a WP page. Does that qualify him to be on the list in this article? ArthurDent006.5 (talk) 12:29, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

If he has an Wikipedia article, he's notable enough for list like this. Just go ahead and add Steve Keen to it. Voceditenore (talk) 13:15, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
I agree. Having a WP page is the principal criterion in such matters. LynwoodF (talk) 15:29, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
I have now added him. LynwoodF (talk) 15:36, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Nick Hornby??

Nick Hornby is listed as a notable alumnus. However, Hornby's official website states that he was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, and the official Kingston University website does not list him as a notable alumnus. I have therefore removed him from the list of notable alumnus until somebody can provide a better source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.1.130.189 (talk) 21:16, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

Recent edits seem to be making this article into an advert for the University with many references to their own website. Wikipedia has essentially no interest in anything said or published by Kingston University. It is only interested in what people who have no connection with the university have chosen to publish about them: the article should be limited to a summary of what such independent sources have said about it. Theroadislong (talk) 19:28, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

While it is appropriate to use the university as a reference for some things, e.g. dates, administration names, etc., this article is basically a lengthy prospectus. It needs considerable trimming and summarising in my view. Who on earth cares where their "seven-storey car park" is located or that one of the campuses buildings has a canteen? Voceditenore (talk) 07:16, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
I attempted to tidy up the article given the concerns and have been reverted with no explanation. I see Voceditenore that you have tried communicating with the user. Frenchbook if you have an explanation can you discuss here Aloneinthewild (talk) 17:02, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
I have trimmed back some of the primary sourced trivia though there is probably more that could go. Theroadislong (talk) 18:36, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
