Directors and choreographers

[edit]

Adding a list of names of directors and choreographers seems fine, but adding personal details about them (even if it can be supported by citations) is not really necessary per WP:NOTEVERYTHING. Basically, the only really relevant information is the person's name, the position they held and the years they held that position. Anything else is not really relevant to this article. Now, if some of these people are Wikipedia notable enough for stand-alone articles to be written about them per WP:BIO, then more details about their lives can and should be added to their individual articles. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:43, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Performances and appearances

[edit]

@KingOfKilgore: Listing and linking to a bunch of continents, countries, states, etc. where the team has performed is not really very encyclopedic and not really informative. Moreover, linking to all these places isn't really need constructive per WP:OVERLINK since the articles about those places almost certainly make no mention of the team, and specifically refering to continents seem to be completely unnecessary unless it part of a tour officially named the "#### continent tour". Trivial and obvious mentions are not really needed; for example, the team performs at events at college located in Texas, which is in North America; so, it seems quite obvious that the team will have performed in North America.

If there are specific performances at these locations for which the team is particularly notable and which can be supported by citations, reviews, etc. to secondary sources, then they probaby can be mentioned as WP:PROSE instead of an embeded list. Perhaps a general opening sentence such as "the team has performed in ## countries and ## states" is OK, but not a list of each and every location. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:04, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Marchjuly: If that's the case, you are going to be veeerrrryyyy busy with several other pages for college dance teams. Or, do you just have a hard on for this particular page? Michael from Kilgore 01:59, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • See WP:OTHERCONTENT for comparisons to other articles; such comparisons are not always valid and relevant to what's being discussed. If other articles have similar content, then perhaps those articles do need to be discussed as well.
I'm not sure how your do you just have a hard on for this particular page? question is really contributing to this discussion. I think the article could probably be improved by bringing it more in line with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines; that's my only interest in it. Your connection to the subject matter appears to be closer simply just going by your choice of username. That's fine as long as you're more WP:HERE than WP:NOTHERE. If you want to discuss article content, then that's fine for this talk page. If you want to discuss/question my motivation or behavior, then perhaps another venue is better suited for that.
Finally, unrelated to this discussion I guess, but there appears to be a problem with your signature per WP:SIGLINK. All signatures are supposed contain at least one link to a user page or user talk page. Did you sign your post using WP:TILDE? Perhaps you modified your signature in someway? The software should automatically add a link to your signature unless there is a problem with the sugnature's formatting. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:33, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Photos

[edit]

KingOfKilgore the magazine covers are copyrighted material which don't provide valuable information that couldn't be provided with free-use photos. What you can do is upload to commons your own photographs. You can do that here; you'll have to create an account but it's free, fast, and easy. Then come here to the talk page and give us the file names.

I would strongly recommend that you stop editing the article directly. If you have information you'd like to see included, add it to this talk page in a new section. Other editors will insert it into the article if they feel it's appropriate. valereee (talk) 11:35, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

KingOfKilgore Sorry this has made you unhappy enough to stop editing. I was hoping to help, as the article is an interesting one and I'd quite like to see photos included. Unfortunately I'm nowhere near Texas, so I can't help. valereee (talk) 14:10, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

sourcing

[edit]

PhillyHarold, I answered you at my talk about your specific question, but in general I'm concerned about this article having way too much sourcing that is affiliated with the Rangerettes -- their own website, the college website, etc. I think we should probably find other sourcing for as much as possible that's currently cited only to affiliated sources. If the information isn't available from some other source, it means no one is talking about it, which means it's probably not appropriate for inclusion in the article. --valereee (talk) 14:07, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
