RE: British role

[edit]

User:Shinwari93 has recently made an edit to the section "Alleged British involvement". His edit is problematic for a number of reasons:

  • He cites blogs, which are not exactly WP:RS
  • "although the support contradicted" implies that Britain, did as a fact, support the government - but that is hardly certain. Britain's role in this whole ordeal is unclear, but, as Senzil Nawid lays out, is probably nonexistent. The British library website claims that Britain supported the Afghan government, which I added because I felt it was worth noting, but given the rest of the section, was not intended to be simply accepted at face value.
  • "Britain had always been seeking to overthrow Amanullah Khan from the throne." - this line seems reminiscent of the older historiography where Britain orchestrated the downfall of Amanullah in 1929 - which has now been superseded, with current historical consensus viewing it as caused by internal factors. I made a writeup on the matter at Afghan Civil War (1928–1929)#British Empire.

Due to these issues, I will reinstate the article as it was prior to Shinwari's edit. Koopinator (talk) 08:47, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
