Origins / Paragraph 2
[edit]In paragraph 2, the language does not seem neutral to me, particularly the last sentence about "baseless" origin of the name. None have any citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mschwer2 (talk • contribs) 15:45, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
Edits to resolve multiple issues
[edit]The original article was almost completely copy-pasted from the webpage of the Khartoum State Information Center (http://www.krt.gov.sd/abouten.php). I have made several changes to resolve the three tagged issues: copypaste, lack of citations, and copy-editing.
- Inline citations were added to the original source, and other sources I found, mostly compilations of statistical data from the 2008 census. Some of the statistical data in the original article was inconsistent. For example, the infobox gave a population total of > 7 million, whereas in-text (and the original source article) gave ca. 5 million. I have decided to use the 5 million figure which is given in the 2008 census, because I have been unable to corroborate the 7 million figure elsewhere (if anyone else can find a suitable reference, perhaps include it with a description of why there is a discrepancy between different population estimates?)
- Language was edited to make it more neutral and encyclopedic in style. For example, in the section "Etymology" (originally part of the article lead). I believe this resolves the issue of non-neutrality brought up in the previous thread of this talk page.
- List of localities at the bottom of the original article has been incorporated into the description of the three "blocks", under section "Administrative subdivisions", with the different transcriptions of the Arabic names put together.
- The section of museums and archaeological sites was condensed. The separate subsections on the Sudan National Museum and Khalifa House Museum were removed. In the latter case, the material was moved to the stub article Khalifa House Museum.

Khartoum (state) → Khartoum State – Since its official name is "Khartoum State", putting parentheses is pointless and contrary to WP:NATURAL. It is like writing New York City as New York (city). Parham wiki (talk) 23:46, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- Support per WP:NATURALDISAMBIGUATION. Rreagan007 (talk) 01:09, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
- Strong Support. 1st really good catch. I saw this page for ages and never thought the name doesn’t make any sense. Well, the name does not make any sense. Khartoum state or state of Khartoum is actually the official name as translated from Arabic Arabic: ولايه الخرطوم. This move should be uncontroversial FuzzyMagma (talk) 07:47, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
