[edit]I am reverting the wikilink in the middle of the article title.
The convention is that the first sentence of an article is supposed to contain the article's title. It is supposed to be in bold, and without wikilinks.
If someone wants to wikilink training camp in this article they should do so elsewhere.

Highly questionable assertions
[edit]The article currently starts with a lead sentence that makes highly questionable assertions. It currently says: "...was one of the hundreds of al-Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan." This is referenced to the documentary "Son of al Qaeda", which I have seen many times, and which I am sure never said this.
Indian intelligence officials stated that Afghanistan had something like 100 training camps, in total. But this would include many camps that were not al Qaeda camps. This would include:
- The training camps of militant opposition groups from Afghanistan's neighbours, which the Taliban allowed to use Afghanistan as a base;
- Training camps for groups that help rumps of territory in opposition to the Taliban, like the Northern Alliance, and Hezbi Islami Gulbuddin;
- Warlords and druglords, who weren't actively opposing or actively supporting the Taliban maintained large militias
- The CIA set up training camps, during the Soviet occupation, and some, like Khaldan, were able to acquire new sponsors when their CIA funding went away.
I am not going to wait to rewrite this highly questionable and poorly documented assertion. Geo Swan (talk) 13:52, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Geo Swan. Yes, don't wait to rewrite, be bold. I vaguely remember coming across some US Government documents listing the various al-Qaeda training camps. I think there were a dozen or less that the USG claimed were al-Qaeda controlled. But the bigger issue is that, as the article makes clear, it is not settled whether Khalden was an al-Qaeda training camp. Mnnlaxer (talk) 14:08, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- Not sure that "he said, she said" is the right final answer, but it is much better than before. I might come back to this article and work on it sometime, but I'll certainly pay attention to any updates you make. Mnnlaxer (talk) 15:59, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
