Deletion tag?
[edit]I think this article is relevant and whoever marked it for deletion needs to wait until all the facts are fully disclosed. Since this was a victim from the shooting,be patient for more information and show respect for those who tragically died April 16. MattFBC 18:13, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

- Why? Notable academic. See [1] and scroll down to his bio, and resources cited in the article Kevin Granata. Bearian 19:02, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Thats terrible there is no reason for this to be up for deletion.
- It was DXRAW, who nominated all notable victim's article for deletion. This individual's reasoning makes little to no sense. I am offended by his/her actions, however perhaps he/she has some personal vendetta agianst mass casualty victims because he/she has been requesting the deletion of articles pertaining to the victims of Columbine High School massacre as well.
- Probably notable under WP:PROF with 211 hits on Google Scholar. And medical publications have quite high readership numbers. JeffBurdges 11:27, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- If you take a look at the deletion discussion above, the vote was closed early because there was an overwhelming vote to keep, with the majority of respondents agreeing he meets notability under WP:PROF.-Gloriamarie 15:35, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Citing
[edit]I added all of Granata's previous appointments-- I got them from this page: http://www.biomechanics.esm.vt.edu/msbiolab/ but it has frames so it doesn't support a direct link. By clicking on "People" and then his name at the top, you can see the page listing his accomplishments and CV.Gloriamarie 18:39, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
In fact there is a direct link : http://www.biomechanics.esm.vt.edu/msbiolab/People/Faculty%20and%20staff/Granata.htm 88.232.195.59 20:39, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for finding that! -Gloriamarie 21:25, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Made a correction...Curry is the SCHOOL of Education at UVa, not a department as previously indicated.

- WP:NOT. Wikipedia is not a memorial. This article may well be deleted in the future, but it will probably not be brought up again for a while. Titanium Dragon 02:23, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- The article will not be deleted. Check the deletion discussion linked above. It was closed early because a vast majority of everyone involved agreed that he meets WP:PROF. Why would the article be deleted? --Gloriamarie 02:49, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- Because, quite frankly, most of these articles are going to get nuked within 6 months once everyone has calmed down and forgotten about it. I severely doubt in six months he will still be considered notable. Titanium Dragon 02:53, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- The opinions voiced at the AFD had more to do with his work as a professor (which enabled him to pass WP:PROF) than with his role in the killings. As such, it seems extremely unlikely to me that the article would be deleted, since I can't think of any circumstances that would change the impact of his work with biomechanics. The sources necessary to create the article might have become more readily available as a result of the tragedy, but he was notable even before he was killed. -Hit bull, win steak(Moo!) 17:34, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

As someone who knew this person and greatly respect his contributions to the field of biomechanics, cerebral palsy and motion analysis, I wholeheartedly hope that this page will be here for a long time. He is a prominent researcher in our field and he and his work will be greatly missed. As the next president of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, I know that the members of our organization and other researchers appreciate his inclusion.202.171.211.252 06:34, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Virginia Tech massacre template
[edit]Though I support retaining the template itself, I question its inclusion in this or any of the other bio articles of otherwise notable people who died in the shootings, as it gives too much emphasis within their bios to the manner of their death. Not to mention it seems very tasteless. --Yksin 18:00, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, remove the template, it's inappropraite. And it'll be delted anyway. JeffBurdges 20:57, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
ARTICLE NEEDS TO BE DELETED
[edit]The Walid Shaalan article and Reema Samaha articles are marked for deletion so this one needs to be removed too 68.211.145.65 03:02, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
No it doesn't. It has met notability standards set by Wikipedia for academics.--Gloriamarie 00:33, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
He loved golf...
[edit]Do we need this level of detail? Rich Farmbrough, 21:45 27 April 2007 (GMT).
Since that's in the personal life section, and since that is from mainstream news sources and was covered by them, I don't see why not.--Gloriamarie 00:30, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Now that over a year has passed, this article needs to be looked at again in respect to WP:MEMORIAL. I will begin this inquiry with the question: if he was notable as a professor before the Virginia Tech Massacre, then why is there not a single source dated before this event to establish this claimed notability? The way the article reads now, it looks just like a plain-old run-of-the-mill obituary -> not appropriate for Wikipedia. Rooot (talk) 09:29, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Many of the sources I used, such as his bio from the Virginia Tech website, were in fact in place before his death. In fact, since I wrote most of this article within a few days of his death, I did use many resources already available on the web discussing his academic research and work, sources that had no way of knowing that he would eventually die the way he did. Professor Granata was certainly notable for inclusion on Wikipedia, he withstood many deletion discussions in the days after the massacre by meeting standards that other articles did not meet, and I stand by that today as well.--Gloriamarie (talk) 19:22, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
