removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV
[edit]I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:
- This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
- There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
- It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
- In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. [edit]Hello! My name is My name is Melissa Drozdowski, and I work for Interprose, Inc. (please see my previously declared COI on my User page). Our firm represents a number of high-tech clients in a variety of markets, such as mobile and telecoms. We have been asked by Dr. Brownell to help bring this article up to Wikipedia's standards, including improving its content so that it strictly meets NPOV and citation guidelines.
While we would prefer not to edit this page directly ourselves except as needed to correct and/or update existing information, we would like to aid the Wikipedia editing community by serving as a resource. We are more than happy to provide as much factual, non-advertorial information as possible. Merge
[edit]Kelly David Brownell should be merged into Kelly D. Brownell, as both are about the same subject, but the latter is the older article. Vycl1994 (talk) 07:06, 17 May 2018 (UTC) I now see that the created of Kelly David Brownell, mdrozdowski, has contributed to this article and has declared her conflict of interest on this talk page. I don't know much about Brownell's field, and so may not be much help in a WP:Merge. Vycl1994 (talk) 06:25, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, Vycl1994!
- I didn't actually expect this to get moved to the article space right away (I fully expected some recommended edits from the community). My apologies for not making it clearer, but my original intent was to update the current article with the revised version I submitted. What's the best way for me to handle? I'm fine with a merge if needed, or I can do the update as I'd planned. I'm more than happy to go with whatever everyone thinks is best.
- Mdrozdowski, because the page you created is more detailed, I think a WP:FMERGE to Kelly D. Brownell is possible here. I'll ask AFC reviewer Legacypac for their thoughts. Vycl1994 (talk) 07:08, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
- I can't approve a page on a topic that already exists. If you took the existing page and expanded and adjusted it you can just copy your draft over the existing page. It's just making your changes in one big edit. Don't wipe out any interveaning improvements by others between when you copied the existing page and paste in the new version. Good job by the way. Legacypac (talk) 07:26, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

- Copying my edits over is definitely what I had in mind; again, my apologies for goofing up the process here. I'll go ahead and make that edit to the existing Kelly D. Brownell as per your recommendations above. Once I've made that update, will someone get rid of the Kelly David Brownell? Or do I need to request that it be deleted somewhere? Apologies for all the questions, I've never actually bumped into this situation before.
- And thanks for your kind words on the new version of the article; I really appreciate it.
- I have now updated this article with the revisions that were published in the Kelly David Brownell version. I will update the Talk page of that other article with the same info, in hopes of minimizing confusion. Not sure if I need to request speedy deletion of that article, so any insight and/or assistance would be warmly welcomed. Thank you!

- Mdrozdowski, Speedy deletion is unnecessary. I have redirected Kelly David Brownell to Kelly D. Brownell. Vycl1994 (talk) 14:42, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

- Vycl1994, thanks for all the help. Very much appreciated. Any chance we can get the COI flag on the article resolved?
Tagging + Edits
[edit]I tagged this article with COI/NPOV because it reads more like a hagiography than a biography and it is being 'managed' at the behest of the article subject.
To start with I removed a large section of what was essentially name dropping of journals to no biographical/encyclopedic purpose. I do not have the time or current inclination to continue to work my way through the other issues, particularly as the subject is paying someone to do so. Jbh Talk 21:10, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, Jbh and Theroadislong I'm MDrozdowski. I wanted to reach out to both of you regarding this article, to see what your objections are. I thoroughly respect Wikipedia's COI and NPOV rules, and tried to stick to them very stringently. I know you the number of journals named in the article were a concern, however, I felt they were needed to establish notability.
- My goal here is to be a respectful, if paid, editor for Wikipedia articles. With that in mind, would you both mind sharing where the article went astray? I had a number of other Wikipedia editors take a look at it when submitting edits, especially because the original article had so many issues with no COI declared and the author not being able or willing to maintain NPOV. My hope is to learn from any errors, so as not to make those again. Any insight you'd like to share would be warmly welcomed.
- Thank you!

- You can see in the article's history and edit summaries why I made my edits. I have no desire to enter into conversation with you about it, I detest paid editing.Theroadislong (talk) 21:32, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

- I found this article informative yet, as has been pointed out, excessively promotional. I've edited it to read less like a CV. I think it may now be appropriate to remove the COI/NPOV templates/tags, and would like to solicit input from fellow editors without any COI. I particularly invite input from Jbhunley and Theroadislong, who have contributed to this discussion in the past. Biblib (talk) 20:38, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
Published Works Citation
[edit]The article from The Atlantic does mention Dr. Brownell's articles and books; the number of his published works is now 15 books, 350+ articles. The Atlantic's article (https://www.theatlantic.com/author/kelly-brownell) calls out 14 and 300, which at the time, was correct (hit the "MORE+" link to see the full text that appears below):
"He has published 14 books and more than 300 scientific articles and chapters. One book received the Choice Award for Outstanding Academic Book from the American Library Association, and his paper on "Understanding and Preventing Relapse," published in the American Psychologist, was listed as one of the most frequently cited papers in psychology."
I am resolving the cited number now until I can find another reference that shows the 15 books / 350 article number.
Mdrozdowski (talk) 22:18, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, so I completely misunderstood the edit to citation #16, and have reverted my own changes. Verification failure is correct; will fix once I locate a third-party reference or remove the sentence if I can't.
- Apologies for the confusion!
- Have added two new citations demonstrating Dr. Brownell's contribution to mainstream outlets. Hopefully, that satisfies the verification requirement.
