Could somebody please tell me if any of the "Kato's" listed here have anything to do with the comment Cher gives Josh in Clueless? In one of the early scenes in the film, Josh claims that: "Just because my Mother marries another man doesn't mean he's my Father" to which Cher remarks "Actually Kato that's exactly what it means." This is for an English assiginment where I'm looking up a number of pop culture referencs in the film. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
""Kato" means "Fujiwara in Kaga", commonly said. " <----- What does this mean? Can someone clarify it?
Move to Katō (Japanese surname)
[edit]As this surname index article is specifically about the Japanese surname 加藤 and a) there are other people with name Kato list in the Kato (name) index article and b) there are people listed in this article with surname spelled "Kato", I suggest this page be moved to Katō (Japanese surname). This reflects the Anthroponymy standard of using a demonym (see WP:APOTITLE) to differentiate between the page with people with surname Kato who are named 加藤 and people with surname Kato who are not named 加藤. I would also suggest including a hatnote in this article pointing back to (name) article for people named Kato (and not 加藤). Coastside (talk) 23:00, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Katō (surname) → Katō (Japanese surname) – To differentiate people with surname Kato listed in article Kato (name) who are not named 加藤. Coastside (talk) 23:04, 1 February 2019 (UTC)--Relisting. Warm Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 17:44, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - absolutely no need to separate these per WP:USEENGLISH. Where would the non-Japanese surnames be listed otherwise? -- Netoholic @ 02:32, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
- WP:USEENGLISH doesn't say you can't have a qualifier for a name page such as "(Japanese surname)". As per WP:APOTITLE demonyms (e.g., "Japanese" in this case) are appropriate to further distinguish titles as necessary. For example, see Chu (Chinese surname).
- More to the point, though, my intent in suggesting changing the title of the page is to make clear what names are on this page vs. on the Kato (name) page. I'm not arguing that this page SHOULD be a Japanese name page. I'm arguing that IF it's a Japanese name page, then it should be titled that way to make it clear. Xezbeth asserted (see discussion at User_talk:Xezbeth#Macron_or_nationality?) that this particular name page was about the name 加藤 and not the name Kato, believing that the macron over the letter "o" sufficiently distinguished it as a Japanese name. My problem with the way it is now is that there are people with surname "Kato" on both pages Kato (name) and Kato (surname), and the only way to distinguish them is based on nationality. If that's the case, then make clear that this page is the Japanese surname. Coastside (talk) 05:19, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
