Notability and sources
[edit]I believe the page for Karen Dionne actually does meet Wiki's Notability standards (WP:CREATIVE) for the following reasons:
1. Dionne did win an international award, please see References section: "Previous Scribe Awards Winners: The Ninth Annual Scribe Awards". International Association of Media Tie-In Writers. May 2, 2017.
2. Dionne's work has been reviewed by multiple "independent, secondary sources" such as Publishers Weekly and RT Book Review. Again, see Reference section, specifically: - "Freezing Point: Karen Dionne, Author". Publishers Weekly. August 11, 2008. - "Boiling Point: K.L. Dionne, Author". Publishers Weekly. November 1, 2010. - "The Marsh King's Daughter: Karen Dionne, Author". Publishers Weekly. April 3, 2017. - "RT Book Review Award for Mystery Suspense & Thriller - 2008".
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FactsForYou (talk • contribs) 18:41, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Well, lets look at the sources currently cited.
- "Previous Scribe Awards Winners: The Ninth Annual Scribe Awards". International Association of Media Tie-In Writers. May 2, 2017.
- This includes Dionne in a list of nominees (not winners) of this award. There is no additional detail. If this is a notable or significant award, this would contribute to notability. How significant is it? The award does not have a Wikipedia article at this moment.
- "Spotlight on Backspace". Writer's Digest. September 4, 2009.
- This is an interview with the subject, and so is basically a non-independent source, and so contributes little to notability.
- "Book Reviews by Karen Dionne". New York Journal of Books. January 27, 2012.
- This is mostly a list of her writings, which contributes little to notability. The comments in the intro contribute something, but then this is produced by her employer, which reduces its value.
- "Articles by Karen Dionne". HuffPost. Huffington Post. January 20, 2016.
- This is again just a list of the subject's work, put out by the site where the works were published. Adds nothing to notability.
- "Freezing Point: Karen Dionne, Author". Publishers Weekly. August 11, 2008.
- This is a review of one of he novels. It contributes something to notability as per WP:CREATIVE, but to attain notability via that route it needs to be demonstrated that
The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series) or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews
. This is only one such review. Furthermore this is a rather brief review.
- This is a review of one of he novels. It contributes something to notability as per WP:CREATIVE, but to attain notability via that route it needs to be demonstrated that
- "Boiling Point: K.L. Dionne, Author". Publishers Weekly. November 1, 2010.
- This is another review, by the same source, as as the previous review. Much like the previous entry.
- "The Marsh King's Daughter: Karen Dionne, Author". Publishers Weekly. April 3, 2017.
- Yet another novel review, from the same source, in a very similar format and length.
- "RT Book Review Award for Mystery Suspense & Thriller - 2008". RT Book Review.
- Lists the subject as a nominee (not a winner) for an award from a review site. Just how significant is this award? It is not a "major" award, apparently.
- Karen, Dionne. "How to Use Facts in Your Fiction". Writer's Digest.
- Article by the subject, Contributes noting to notability.
- "Karen Dioone". RT Book Review. Retrieved 1 May 2017.
- List of works published. No details. No reviews. Contributes nothing to notability.
Based on the above list, notability has not yet been established. If this went to an AfD and no additional sources were cited, I would expect an outcome of delete. Significantly more reviews, from a wider variety of sources, with multiple reviews for each work, are needed, in my view, to clearly establish notability via WP:CREATIVE.
