Please note that I am on a break and editing on a mobile device is wanting. I will do further work on this when I return. Specific responses:
  • I have removed one dead link, which happens to be redundant; the others need replacing rather than removal
  • citations in the lead are not contraindicated, and are often preferred by reviewers for contentious assertions; i cannot do what you request from a mobile device
  • As far as I can tell, the points in the lead are already in the body
  • Excess citations have been culled
  • AFAICT, the vast majority of citations are from secondary sources, and there are only about three from primary sources. Kindly clarify which sources you have an issue with.
