Fair use rationale for Image:KNGY-FM.png

[edit]

Image:KNGY-FM.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Please stop the slander

[edit]

Maybe the new owner is homophobic, maybe he isn't; but so far the only evidence given is that the new owner fired the staff of the radio station and changed the format. Changing the format is standard operating procedure when a new owner takes over, as is changing the staff. Both gay and straight employees were fired. So please stop screaming discrimination just because a decision was made that wasn't popular with the listeners. If you have a citation, put it in the article.

BayAreaRadio (talk) 21:45, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added [citation needed] to that controversy. If no one can find any articles to support the 'homophobe' claim, I Think the paragraph should be removed

japerry007 (talk) 09:45, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure "rumors say person X is a homophobe" and citing blogs saying that he is (with none of them giving evidence outside of that he fired people that happened to be gay and straight) is an improvement. It's still not evidence, and changing the accusation from "You're an X!" to "I heard you're an X!" is not materially different. Unless someone can find real evidence (a quote, a past action, or him rehiring all the straight employees while not rehiring the gay ones), I'm removing the line since it violates the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy. Firing someone without regard to sexual orientation is far different than firing someone because of sexual orientation.

About Receiver Larry Patrick

[edit]

Removed "debtor in possession" - no citation. Solid Research (talk) 05:09, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Expanded, corrected and updated the article regarding the attempted sale of the stations. The citations are to articles on pmjmp.org. It is worth noting that the research in those articles are supported by citations to the actual court documents in question, a reliable source. I don't understand why, but for some reason I am getting notifications for every review comment by @DoctorWhoFan91 and @Sammi Brie, on this GA review, and the KSTV GA review. Weird, any ideas to stop it? It is a wonderful world (talk) 18:58, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]
  • Ref-40(UPI) looks incomplete  Done
    • Looks like IABot failed to give it an access date. I've done at least that.
  • Was JazzWest reliable?
    • @DoctorWhoFan91: I can't find much about them, as it seems to have been a regional specialty site and is no longer active (for years it has trumpeted a "soon" return on its site). The bio of the author states, Michael Handler is a freelance jazz writer and photographer who lives in Oakland, CA. He has written for Downbeat, JazzNow, and several other publications. Interestingly, he still hosts jazz radio in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and his bio at KSFR indicates that he was a DJ and host at KJAZ in the 80s. We have an article on DownBeat. I'm comfortable with his qualifications. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 18:17, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]

Had some minor issues, though I fixed them myself. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 08:31, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I introduced a lot of issues in trying to fix it myself

Pat Henry Ownership

[edit]
  • Henry noted that ... : If that's his reason for buying it, you should mention it, seems non-sequitar  Done
    • Decided to drop this since I couldn't find the wording in the source.
  • It broadcast for: It was broadcast for
    • I feel like I went through this at the last GA review:: "broadcast" is a verb, too.
      • yes, but the former is present simple, the other is past simple
        • It is also a past-tense word.
  • Voices heard on the station: Confusing, does this mean a viewer's voice?  Done
    • No, it means some of their announcers. Changed to "announcers"
  • telephone lines from Alameda: Is there a word missing?  Done
    • No. The station had its own telephone lines to carry audio of concerts and the like back to its studios.
      • so something like ranging/extending/running/etc could be added between "lines" and "from"?
        • Done

KREV: Ed Stolz ownership

[edit]
  • Shouldn't you mention here and in lead who Ed Stolz is, just his name makes it sound like his is a famous name  Done
    • There's no biography of him. He was a previous owner of some other stations (namely KUDL in Sacramento). Additional information on Stolz would be out of scope; given the depth of his stations' bankruptcy case (this is the primary article that discusses it at this time), he might merit the GNG. Left a redlink here.
      • just something like "longtime station operator Ed Stolz" would be good
        • Added another sentence to satisfy this.

Sale to KEXP

[edit]
  • local music program Audioasis.: local to where, was it on KEXP or KEXC?  Done
    • Clarified.

* a $10 million bequest from an anonymous listener.: that seems unusual, does only one ref talk about this

    • There is more coverage of this in KEXP-FM — it is not as relevant here.

KNGY: Energy 92.7

[edit]
  • and had done so: having already done so  Done
  • Yes

* dance music–formatted: Is this correct grammar?

  • Yes
  • sponsored its first Pride event; two HIV-positive DJs urged a listener boycott: how are the two related, did the call for boycott occur during the event?  Done
    • Reflowed

* Programs on the station included: is this part of appealing to the gays, or a separate thing? Looks separate

    • A bit of both! (Karel is gay.) It kind of goes here cuz it's the only place it goes.

Sale and closure

[edit]
  • reports had Cowan selling :Is this correct grammar?
    • Yes
  • service only aired: Is this a cause or consequence of the channel doing badly
    • It's unclear. But it was unsuccessful.
  • was $3 million.: "would be"? given that it's an estimate by a person  Done
    • Changed.
  • Evers noted: Evers also noted?  Done

Ron Cowan ownership

[edit]
  • full-time sales representatives to replace the heavy use of barter agreements with advertisers under Henry,[19] back-office procedures, and employee benefits.: Maybe the first change should be written last, as it looks at first glance that the latter three are the changes.  Done
    • Went for a different restructuring. Not having full-time sales reps is the biggest fact here.

* and give the disc jockeys : , givng the ...(its cause and effect, should sound like it)

    • Disagree: if that is a rationale, it's not an indirect effect.
      • Okay, suggestion revoked
  • Henry shunned: Henry had shunned(past perfect, not simple)  Done
  • I'm confused- Cowan instead bought Wilson's share in the station.: Cowan wants to sell, Wilson is disappointed; but Wilson ends up selling, and Cowan continues?
    • Yes.
      • confused as in "what was anyone thinking here"- is there any reasons given in RS why such an unusual thing happened?
        • Could not find anything else in RS!
  • KJAZ founder Henry: KJAZ founder Pat Henry (if he is being reintroduced, it should be his full name)  Done
    • Dropped the introduction.
  • Last para- very confusing: "was close with Willie Brown" seems non-sequitar, wooing the uni is fraught, how is this related or fraught; "into the matter"- the word woo did not make it sound like it needed an investigation; "which centered on"- same as the prev sentence, nothing made it sound like it was wrong; last sentence is fine.  Done
    • Cowan might call for an article at some point. The main point is that Brown had an in with California state lawmakers and officials and was using it to pitch them on locating in his development. Cowan's story is kind of wild: in part of his financial collapse at this time, a judge ordered the items from his mansion seized to make up for his missed alimony payments ([1]). I have reworded this a bit.
      • fixed enough

License challenge

[edit]
  • Some jazz fans: However, some jazz fans  Done
  • that would be Black-controlled: sale to minority-controlled groups is mentioned first only in the next para, so this sounds weird  Done
  • Henry had improved the station in response to criticism: Reference? (and example, bcs otherwise it does not sound like wikivoice)  Done
    • Reworded. The reference is the same.
  • This would have ... and newspaper interests.: Make into one sentence, and mention name, then that it would be the first Filipino-American-owned station  Done
  • Who is the image of- Mention that they are jazz singers  Done
    • That's why there are wikilinks in the caption. (Spangler has a discography but no article)
      • I know, but two words are better than tapping the screen four times
        • If you insist.
  • unionize KJAZ went: unionize KJAZ before went  Done
  • COM opposed: Also, COM opposed  Done
  • Committee on Open Media: is this a typo or a different group? If typo, use the abbreviation here too  Done
    • Typo.
[edit]
  • as the company: and the company  Done
  • Mention name change, as KXJO appears out of nowhere  Done
    • Done with a new citation.
  • Bruce Buzil and Chris Devine: if names are mentioned, occupations are too usually  Done
    • Source does not contain information: "Bruce Buzil and Chris Devine are the principals of Three Point Media-San Francisco, LLC." Devine was a serial radio entrepreneur, from what I know (I first ran into him years ago doing KXBR (Missouri), a landmark DYK that led to pretty much every other radio station project I've done since). I don't know much of Buzil. Apparently Devine also owned the Las Vegas and Salt Lake marathons, for some reason.
  • owner of: now the owner of
    • Umm?
      • What does this refer to? I don't think the quote box should be longer. This would be awkward in context.
        • Clear Channel owned the channel for some time, I was referring to that (there was a ref error in this section, so I changed this while fixing it- feel free to edit it if you feel there can be a better wording)
          • Fine, revoked
