Rename article from "Kaal" to "Kala".

[edit]

I'm not sure why this article is named "Kaal" when everywhere on the page it says "Kala". Maybe it was a typo? Consider renaming it to "Kala". As far as I have seen, the Sanskrit word for time, at least material time, is "kala". Jroberson108 (talk) 04:11, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jroberson108 "Kaal" is a transliteration of काल as it is pronounced in modern Hindi, but the same Devanagari spelling is pronounced "kaala" in Sanskrit. See https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%B2 . (This default vowel at the ends of words is dropped from most modern languages derived from Sanskrit.)
That perhaps explains why "kaal" was used, but perhaps the Sanskrit version is more appropriate, given the subject? (Note: I'm not an expert; I'm early in the process of learning Hindi myself.) Jim Pivarski (talk) 02:52, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
