big bang image
[edit]Hi Jim,
there has been some discussion about your very interesting image, that we would like very much to use in the Big Bang article (see discussion). There are two small problems with it and I would like to have some comments about them:
- The first one is about the inflation portion of your picture. It happens to be quite different from the description given in the section on "Horizon" of the Big Bang article. The "bee stinger" of your picture corresponds there to the shape before inflation (when time passes without considerable space expansion), while true inflation begins with rapid space expansion, namely at the base of the stinger. Basically the inflation period considered in your picture starts at time zero (or even before, according to your notes), but I understand this is not the standard way of presenting the subject. I assume there are many different proposals for inflation theory and you are simply following a different one. Could you please give a proper reference to the inflation theory you are following?
- A second problem (maybe obvious, but I would be glad to have your confirmation) concerns the CMBR image, which shouldn't be pasted over an area, as it actually collapses into only one line (the border one, where the legend is). I suppose your choice here is simply an artist rendering, but I would hate stating it explicitly without your approval.
