The article gives a figure of 354 species named based on doi:10.12705/642.4. However, this is a gross underestimate of the taxon names which have "K.Hoffm." as a primary author (i.e. not a transferring author or an "ex" author attributing the name to others). If you search IPNI for species in the genus Macaranga alone with "K.Hoffm." as an author, there are 60 such names (63 are returned but 3 are not primary or are a duplicate) – Search.
I downloaded a complete search from IPNI, and eliminated non-primary author cases and duplicates. My totals for the taxa named that include "K.Hoffm." as a primary author are:
Rank
Number of names
forma
10
genus
32
sect.
13
series
1
species
902
subsect.
1

4

1072
The discrepancy can partly be explained by many of the names no longer being accepted, e.g. having been synonymized with other names, but I still find the difference between Lindon et al.'s 354 species and the 902 I can find in IPNI surprising.
Unfortunately, IPNI's advanced search doesn't allow you to select primary authors, so the data above is based on my personal analysis and so is WP:OR and can't be included in the article. Peter coxhead (talk) 06:16, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
References to "Dr." Käthe Hoffmann may be due confusion with a younger (born in 1895) Dr. Käthe Hoffmann, another teacher of the same period in the Protestant girls' high schools in Breslau. Nomen ambiguum (talk) 14:56, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
