Removed paragraph
[edit]I removed the following text:
- "In 1574 he participated of the foundation of San Salvador, on the Uruguay river, and was appointed Lieutenant Governor and Capitan General of the United Provinces of River Plate."
because I coudln't find any place called san salvador founded by Garay on the Uruguay River, and because the United Provinces of River Plate didn't exist until the 19th century. Mariano(t/c) 07:27, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- The placed was called "Zaratina del San Salvador" at the mouth of the San Salvador River in modern Uruguay, near present-day Dolores (Uruguay). The "city" was founded in 1574 by Ortiz de Zarate, and Garay was part of the expedition. The place was planned as the capital for "Nueva Vizcaya" (New Biscay), but it was abandoned in 1576. This is explained in more detail in the Spanish Wiki-page. It could also be included here, but it is a minor part of the story of Garay.Nordisk varg (talk) 19:33, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Wrong article is still wrong. The Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata wasn't created until 1776, so he could hardly have moved into it. He was in the Viceroyalty of Peru the entire time, after the 1542 reorganization of the former intendancies (which, btw, have yet to be translated from Spanish wiki.) - 116.232.57.216 (talk) 00:53, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Also, there was no "governor of Asunción" - after Buenos Aires was abandonned, Asunción was merely the seat of the governor of New Andalucia (currently only given on English wiki as the Venezuelan region) who was later called governor of the Rio de la Plata, then governor of the Rio de la Plata and the Paraguay. The closest would be calling him governor at Asuncion. -116.232.57.216 (talk) 00:58, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
