Ethereum Switzerland GmbH
[edit]In June 2016, I added the following hidden note with a "needs update" tag in the article:
what was the outcome of this company? does it still exist as a Switzerland business entity? or did it cease operations once the Ethereum Foundation was set up in circa June 2014 and funded with a crowdfunding sale of Ethereum tokens in July/August 2014?
Now, in August, have found that the Ethereum Switzerland GmbH entity was being liquidated as of May 2016. Here's a Makeref-formatted source of the webpage I found that info on (should an article or more-extensive portion of an article ever be created on the Ethereum Gmbh entity): <ref name=moneyhouse20160820>{{cite web |url=https://www.moneyhouse.ch/en/company/ethereum-switzerland-gmbh-20031937831 |title=Ethereum Switzerland GmbH in Liquidation |publisher=Moneyhouse |date=2016-05-13 |deadurl=no |archiveurl=IT WAS SUCCESSFULLY ARCHIVED IN THE WAYBACK MACHINE ON 20 AUGUST; HAD TROUBLE RETRIEVING THE ARCHIVE_URL; JUST SEARCH THE URL AT https://archive.org/web/ | 11:36:17 Aug 20, 2016 |archivedate=2016-08-20 |accessdate=2016-08-20 |quote=Company status: in liquidation; Address Zeughausgasse 7 6300 Zug }}</ref>
What is still unclear is is what the role of the for-profit entity was after the source mentions of May 2014, roughly when the non-profit entity Ethereum Foundation was set up to run the July/August 2014 sale of value tokens for the Ethereum protocol network. Was the Gmbh entity only substantively active for a short while, or did it remain an active entity after early 2014 attempting to do what Lubin said in the Epoch Times article : "The other company I set up with my seven partners in Switzerland. It is for profit and we are going to use it to compete with other companies to provide software and services on the Ethereum network." It seems that the subsequent company, ConsenSys Systems that Lubin set up in New York, is also competing in the "provision of software and services for Ethereum" space.
