The result of the move request was: page moved by technical request. wbm1058 (talk) 22:25, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
Jordan Archer (goalkeeper, born 1993) → Jordan Archer – The subject appears to be the primary topic. There are only two people called Jordan Archer: one is this footballer, who has played in 100+ league matches and in a full international; the other (Jordan Archer (forward, born 1993)) has played in one match between fully professional clubs. WP:2DABS also applies – it would surely be sufficient just to use a hatnote from this article to the other footballer. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 15:05, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- List it under Requests to revert undiscussed moves. Also don't understand why they both have their years of birth in the title. It's not helpful when they were both born in the same year. PC78 (talk) 17:00, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- Support per a TWODABS situation, and please omit the completely redundant years of birth from the titles, regardless of Ptopic consensus. Lazz_R 17:16, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

- Oppose - not the clear PRIMARYTOPIC; yes, the keeper has played in more matches than the forward, but PRIMARYTOPIC applies "if it is highly likely—much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term" which is not the case here. PRIMARYTOPIC is for properly famous people like Abraham Lincoln and JFK; it is not for two footballers. GiantSnowman 19:34, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- In this case there is only one other topic. Therefore it is simply a question of whether one Jordan Archer is more well-known than the other, and how much so. "jordan+archer"+millwall&oq="jordan+archer"+millwall&aqs=chrome..69 "Jordan Archer" + Millwall has 36,800 search results, while "Jordan Archer" + Bury has 9,460. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 05:42, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Support As per Jmorrison230582, the goalkeeper is a clear Primary Topic. As there are 2 articles then a hatnote is more appropriate than a DAB page. Where does PRIMARYTOPIC say that it is only for really famous people? There are 2 people with the same name, one has 100+ incoming links, the other has
about 2in main space. Spike 'em (talk) 19:39, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- There were 2 when I looked earlier, I guess he's been added to a squad template and now has a few more. Spike 'em (talk) 20:23, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- Support At the top of the international goalkeepers page should be a little note for the far less notable non-league forward of the same name (for the 1% who'd want to see his page.) TheLostBoy (talk) 20:59, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- Comment disambiguation pages are designed for conflict when there are multiple people with the same name, not sure it's needed for just two people, if there was one more I would oppose. However name convention has not been addressed, should be goto month, year and not player position, year. Govvy (talk) 21:12, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- If there's no consensus to have the goalkeeper as primary topic, I would prefer to disambiguate by playing position. It's more likely that people will know that one is a goalkeeper and the other is an outfield player (forward) than which month they were born in. Listing the year of birth is redundant, at least until there is another footballer called Jordan Archer. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 05:46, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose because there are only two people here and because the Millwall goalkeeper's article is unlikely to be the subject of many searches. It makes sense to me to have the two descriptive titles. Thanks. No Great Shaker (talk) 21:20, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose Given we also have Jordan Archer (forward, born 1993) there does not seem to be much of a case for giving one of them the Jordan Archer article title. The forward appears to have played in ~40 games and is still playing. Better to leave things as they are. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:57, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- All of the 40-odd games noted in the forward's infobox were played in non-league football. He's only (barely) notable because he played in one cup match between two league teams. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 05:42, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Comment I've AfDed the forward, as his appearance in the FA cup was for a non league team and hence does not pass NFOOTY. Spike 'em (talk) 07:27, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- And the forward has now been moved back to draft space, so no need for disambiguation at present. Preparing the way for his possible debut would seem to be a case of WP:CRYSTAL. Spike 'em (talk) 12:20, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Given the developments regarding the "other" Jordan Archer, I have listed this move at WP:RMT. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 12:29, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Agree this should be moved back given that this is currently the only 'Jordan Archer' in mainspace. GiantSnowman 13:11, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Requested move 4 September 2019
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: this title not moved, Jordan Archer (footballer, born 1993) -> moved to Jordan Archer (forward). An unusual circumstance here, given the discussion concerns two English footballers born in the same year, and discussion below made a compelling argument for using a more concise, if unusual disambiguator. For the moment, I've also re-targeted the footballer 1993 redirect to this location based on the primary topic argument made, but I'm not opposed to that being altered after this discussion if so desired. Jordan Archer → Jordan Archer (goalkeeper, born 1993) – To avoid confusion with Jordan Archer (footballer, born 1993). It's a pretty standard move but it has been opposed for some reason. EchetusXe 08:39, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC applies. A guy who has played >100 league games and international football is clearly more notable than somebody who has played one EFL Trophy game for a professional team. I'm also curious as to how "footballer, born 1993" disambiguates here, because the goalkeeper is also a footballer who was born in 1993. There was an article at Jordan Archer (forward, born 1993) which was deleted and moved into draft space. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 08:44, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 09:25, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Support a double move, this to Jordan Archer (goalkeeper) and the Jordan Archer (footballer, born 1993) article to Jordan Archer (forward). Both born in 1993 so that is unnecessary to disambiguate; both English by birth so nationality is not appropriate. I don't hold sway with the PRIMARYTOPIC arguments. GiantSnowman 09:27, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per Jmorrison, this seems to be the primary topic, so there's no need for a move. "Confusion" doesn't make sense as a rationale, users can click the hatnote if they want the other one. SnowFire (talk) 15:16, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Support Jordan Archer (goalkeeper) and Jordan Archer (forward). Both are clearly footballers. True, these aren't our usual disambiguators, but with two English footballers born in the same year it makes sense-- Necrothesp (talk) 15:50, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per Jmorrison. The goalkeeper is the clear primary topic here and any "confusion" is already handled by the hatnote. The ambiguous title here is Jordan Archer (footballer, born 1993) which should be moved to Jordan Archer (forward) per GiantSnowman. PC78 (talk) 06:20, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose the goalkeeper is the primary topic. As others have noted, Jordan Archer (footballer, born 1993) should be moved to Jordan Archer (forward). Lepricavark (talk) 13:12, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose The forward has yet to play a single football league game. Highest he's played is a couple of fa cup games. The former Millwall goalie and Scotland international is the primary topic until the forward is more notable. TheLostBoy (talk) 21:18, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Comment
OpposeHonestly, I think moving it to "Jordan Archer (goalkeeper, born 1993)" is a bad decision. I would much prefer if the article about the forward was moved to Jordan Archer (footballer, born November 1993), since he isn't considered as notable as the goalkeeper. Jordan Archer (footballer, born April 1993) already redirects to here so I have no comment on that, and I do not wish that the article about the goalie is moved there. - @KingSkyLord: why are you adding more unnecessary disambiguation? Why can't the other Jordan Archer be at the simply Jordan Archer (forward)? GiantSnowman 10:33, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
- @GiantSnowman: We're not WP:BASEBALL or WP:AMF. We disambiguate players based on their year of birth (or nationality) and not their playing position, unless it's absolutely necessary like in Júlio César (football goalkeeper, born 1979) or Joe Smith (football forward, born 1889). This debate is really confusing since there are only 2 Wikipedia articles about people named "Jordan Archer", both of whom are coincidentally footballers who were born in the exact same year. I really don't know what the article should be changed into, so I'm revoking my oppose stance and changing it to a comment. KingSkyLord (Talk page | Contributions) 21:55, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
