Morgellons
This article should be a little bit more precise about the nature of Morgellons. It's not a "controversial" disease, it is a nonexistent thing that isn't recognized by the medical community. It is understood to be a product of delusion. While this is an article on Joni Mitchell and not Mergellons, it is not appropriate for the article to serve as a soapbox for Mitchell or proponents of the existence of Morgellons. It is a promotion of a fringe theory and pseudoscience, which is against WP standards. -Xcuref1endx (talk) 01:31, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- I find the section confusing and unnecessary. BriEnBest (talk) 05:39, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Pictures
I believe it is important to have recent pictures in biographies such as this. Do we only value people in their younger years? This shouldn't be so. 2601:8:1F00:1D4E:1CBD:1AA:C02C:473E (talk) 14:52, 1 April 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.63.80.215 (talk) 14:50, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
The name Mitchell
Not sure how the unmarried Anderson became Mitchell. Valetude (talk) 22:16, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
- Roberta Joan Anderson married Chuck Mitchell and kept his name after the divorce which was pre-career. Mitchell tried to capitalize on their relationship with a few college Q&A appearances but that backfired on him. I saw him at one of these - sorry, but he came off as a real urgh.HammerFilmFan (talk) 01:08, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- Should this not be in the article: it is supposed to be about Joni Mitchell, not just her post-career-launch period. Offspring and spouses are generally mentioned in Wikipedia - why not here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.175.56.110 (talk) 23:40, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Raised on Robbery
I was surprised that this tune was not mentioned amongst the songs that helped propel Court & Spark. I distinctly remember this being played on Top 40 radio type stations. It was this song that attracted me to the album, the balance being icing on the cake so to speak. I thought to mention it along with the other two songs, but would like some consensus before doing so. Thoughts?THX1136 (talk) 14:43, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed---except that it's there, as a red link. Seems you looked right past it. Rothorpe (talk) 19:49, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
No relatives?
In Internet coverage of Ms Mitchell's current medical condition is news that a judge has appointed a long-time friend, Leslie Morris, as her conservator since she has no relatives. An AP story printed on The New York Times website says that: "The eight-time Grammy winner has no relatives who can serve as her conservator, which led to Morris filing a petition last week stating that her friend was unconscious and unable to make decisions about her care." (It then goes on to discuss the conflicting information of coma vs alert.) http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/05/04/us/ap-us-people-joni-mitchell.html?_r=0
Does this mean that Ms Gibbs, Mitchell's daughter, is no longer in her life or merely that her circumstances bar her from assuming conservatorship? There are apparently no relatives left from her family. Thank you and fingers crossed for Mitchell's well-being, Wordreader (talk) 16:34, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
- Joni has many cousins living in Western Canada. Her father came from a large family. I believe her mother had two brothers. Joni has an on/off relationship with her daughter. Anyone who knows anything about Joni Mitchell knows about her father's large family and the relationship she has with her daughter. The conservator is a friend from Saskatchewan. Makes sense since Joni has always said where she came from is the place that has meant the most to her. It is where she will be buried.
- It is the work of amateurs to write so unknowingly about her background. Maybe they should stop writing. Or perhaps allow only Canadians to write. Her background means a lot to Canadians. She is one of us, no matter how hard Americans try to co opt her.204.112.159.178 (talk) 11:37, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is the encylopedia that any one can write - even anonymous IP editors in Pine Falls, Manitoba. And you are quite right to remove material that is not sourced. But it would be very useful if you could also provide sources that Mitchell does have family. I think it may be more a case that she has no-one that she personally considers to be family? You are being a little unfair about "the work of amateurs to write so unknowingly about her background", if all they are doing is quoting a Canadian judge, and even if they write for NYT. Recent health issue.
This is meant as a heads up to be on the look-out for emerging information on her condition. Billboard has this brief story up on their website. Perhaps corroboration will be short-coming: "Joni Mitchell Suffered a Brain Aneurysm: Sources" - http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6582905/joni-mitchell-brain-aneurysm-sources . Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 07:01, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
- She chain smokes, so her problems might well stem from that Nicmart (talk) 05:10, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Influences
"Rap artists Kanye West and Mac Dre have also sampled Mitchell's vocals in their music."
While I cannot deny her influence has been far reaching, the fact that Kanye West, who seems to sample anything and everything, has sampled her music is hardly notable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:AE25:BAD9:78E8:60DA:E1A0:99D7 (talk) 00:58, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- It does speak to KW's lack of originality and talent, but still, neither of those references really enhance this article.Ladysif (talk) 18:32, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Sources
I think the sources listed in accordance to this article are incredibly sound, and help to enhance the credibility of this article. However, it could be nice to have a source to back up her experiences in New York, as there are none attached to it yet. The further reading section is also a very helpful addition to the sources list.Mcannan (talk) 19:19, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
big intro paragraph(s)
Generally an introduction is an introduction - or an outline, perhaps - and you don't use it to hit people between the eyes with a frying pan because, you know, it will knock them out. To me, the problem begins in the third paragraph - it's too long and many of the details belong in the body of the article. Same with the 4th paragaph. My mind goes numb wading through the muck. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rblack2001 (talk • contribs) 01:12, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Spouse(s) and offspring
Why no mention? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.175.56.110 (talk) 23:42, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
- They're mentioned in the article, in the sections relevant to her career. Graham87 03:25, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Feminism
The entry somewhat patronizingly edges her into the feminist camp though she stoutly denies it. I added another quote in which she rejects the feminist label, but I think it should be rewritten without the idea that a woman must be a feminist icon to be a competent achiever. Her views are more Ayn Rand than Susan Brownmiller. Nicmart (talk) 05:14, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
- To be more emphatic, Joni’s views should be be reflected more by her own statements than by those of David Shumway.Nicmart (talk) 05:28, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
what circumstances prevented her from performing at woodstock?
^ BriEnBest (talk) 05:40, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- IIRC she had other performing commitments, but I'm not really in a position to investigate further right now. Graham87 15:55, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- It turns out that I had more time than I thought I did ... I've just added a bit of text culled from the article about the song that answers this question. Graham87 18:50, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
