Jonathan Cook (cricketer) → Jono Cook – Case of common name, as similar to Ben Manenti. Majority of news sources, as well as broadcast and cricket.com.au all use Jono, as does the Sydney Thunder website. Aussiespinnersfanpage (talk) 12:26, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts: User:Bingobro Jono is not a nickname, and particularly in Australia is used as a shortened form of Jonathan, as is Ben for Benjamin, Jimmy for James and Matt for Matthew. I can resource with his Thunder profile if you’d like which states his name as Jono?

@Aussiespinnersfanpage: A shortened form of a real name is a nickname. On the Indian national cricket team and Kings XI Punjab jersey's many players have nick names Dinesh Karthik's jersey reads D K and Yuvraj Singh's jersey reads YUVI that doesn't mean that those will be the titles of articles . @Bingobro: @Lugnuts: I am aware what a nickname is, but am stating that this is not one, but a WP:COMMONNAME. In Australia, Jono is commonly used as the preferred name, just as Ben is for Benjamin or James for Jimmy. See also: Jono Dean, Ben Manenti, Jimmy Peirson. Mainly, what I’m trying to get at is that someone is more likely to see “Jono Cook” on a broadcast, website or article before looking him up. It distinguishes him from Jonathan Cook in order to avoid confusion, and is simply a WP:COMMONNAME as for many other cricketers.
