Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedy deleted as being recently created, having no relevant page history and duplicating an existing English Wikipedia topic, because... This article is a split page. The article covers a new Superboy character, who is distinct from previous Superboys, and only have a limited coverage on the existing Superboy article. Each Superboys who have assumed the Superboy identity, has individual article of their own. Which is why I created an article specifically about this character, and also allowed the topics to be discussed more fully and provided more detail about the character's history and biography in the DC Comics. He is a significant and notable character who currently has a big impact and focus in the DC comics and Superman stories. And will also star in his own comic book series as the new Superboy in DC Comics.--Rootone (talk) 06:32, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
Other Versions
[edit]Question: Should "other versions" of the character of Jon Kent really include EVERY single son of Superman and Lois? Or just those actually named Jon / Jonathan?
If it's the former—every single son that's appeared in Superman comics or other media—the list is woefully incomplete. For example, there are numerous Silver Age "imaginary stories" missing, including one (Superman #192/194) where the son actually becomes Superboy.
If it's the latter, then Jason White, Joel Kent (and Kara), and Adam Kent shouldn't be on this list.
Finally, Clark Kent, Jr., who is not named Jon and has a mother who is never identified, definitely should not be on the list. Yes, with Bruce Wayne, Jr., the two characters are the prototypes for the current Super Sons, Jon Kent and Damian Wayne. But that should be noted on the Super Sons page, not here. So that's my justification for removing him. Spiderboy12 (talk) 16:10, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- The character is the son of Superman and Lois, so only the children of Superman and Lois should be on the list, regardless of the names. If you don't think Clark Kent Jr from the Super Son should be on the list, that's fine, but I'm restoring the first part. Superman and Lois did have children in various stories, mostly in the imaginary tale. If they are other characters not on the list, feel free to add. Rootone (talk) 03:35, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
Territorial removing of lead section
[edit]I don't want to make assumptions in bad faith about another editor, but I am concerned that Rootone (talk · contribs) is constantly reverting my attempt at creating a proper WP:LEAD for this article. Per Wikipedia's guidelines, an article should have a lead sections which can:
- stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic. It should identify the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is notable, and summarize the most important points, including any prominent controversies
Rootone's main objection in edit summaries (they don't claim WP:OWNership or opposition to the LGBT content, so I won't attribute that to them...) is seemingly that the article is short enough that someone could just read it end to end. Well, that's not how encyclopaedias work and it's not best practice on Wikipedia.
I've written a few WP:GOOD articles in my time and I am really confident that what this article needs is to be written the proper way and have its lead revolve around the characters real-world notability, and provide a a comprehensive introduction to a casual non-fan. The previous versions did not do it. Mine does.
If Rootone would like to improve upon my lead section – perhaps make the writing tighter, in some way – I would encourage that rather than wholesale, territorial reversion.Zythe (talk) 18:10, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
- Zythe, this is not personally against you. Many of my reasons are already mentioned in the summary. Everything you wrote is available in the body of the article. Do we really need to repeat the same thing over and over and over again? It is completely redundant and unnecessary. Other versions information is not about the same person, that's why it's in the other versions section and not in the main part of the article. Please also note that Wikipedia is not a news site, everything has to be written from a neutral point of view. I have tried to adjust the page, as per your suggestion. Again, please understand it's not against you or anyone else personally. I only want the best for the article and tried to maintain the quality, readability and accuracy of the article. I don't wish to continue to edit warring with you, please just stop and move on. Thank you. Rootone (talk) 19:10, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Jon Kent (DC Comics) → Jon Kent (DC Comics, 2015) – WP:NATURALDAB -- this character was created in 2015 with the full name Jonathan Samuel Kent. Other DC characters named Jon Kent that preceded 2015 are not this character. This is not an overview article of Jon Kents in DC Comics, nor the Smallville father of Clark, nor Jon Lane Kent. "Jon Kent (DC Comics)" should be an overview article or list article of DC Comics characters with that name. Jon Kent (disambiguation) already lists several DC topics. -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 11:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). 65.92.247.66 (talk) 22:13, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- moved from RMTR
- Original proposal: rename to Jonathan Samuel Kent
- We do not use full names if they are not commonly used, even for fictional characters. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:46, 30 April 2024 (UT)
- Virtually all sources refer to this character as "Jon Kent". I don't think this is necessary. Coop (talk) 21:54, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- We have Jon Lane Kent who's also been called Jon Kent. Who is also a DC Comics character, who is also a son of Superman. So "DC Comics" is in all cases a bad disambiguator, since there are many characters in DC Comics milieu called "Jon Kent"; some other disambiguator is needed, or it needs the full character name as disambiguation -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 22:06, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Discussion
[edit]- Add opinions here, if you support or oppose the proposal, and what reasoning you have for that position:
- I am the nominator. I support my own proposal; alternatively Jon Kent (post-New 52) as a different disambiguator -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 22:13, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- Rename to Jonathan Samuel Kent as originally suggested, as less awkward than inventing descriptive disambiguation terms. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:57, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- I am also good with the original proposal of Jonathan Samuel Kent, as the original nominator -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 03:00, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Move to Jonathan Samuel Kent per Pppery and WP:NATURALDIS. It appears to be a name that is used in sources sometimes, and avoids the awkward wording of the proposed disambiguator. Also consistent with Jonathan Lane Kent. And it was the title previously, until a 2021 bold rename. — Amakuru (talk) 07:04, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, keep current title. 1) The current title meets the WP:CRITERIA and WP:COMMONNAME. The character is officially listed as "Jon Kent" at DC Comic [1]. As well as in DC comic books [2] and media coverage [3]. I created this article and titled "Jonathan Samuel Kent" many years ago. However, the character has since been listed by DC Comics and known by fans and the general public as "Jon Kent". 2) Wikipedia already has a disambiguation for Jon Kent [4] that lists all the people named Jonathan Kent and Jon Kent. I also like to point out that there are only TWO people on Wikipedia named "Jon Kent": Jon Kent (cricketer) and Jon Kent (DC Comics). Each person is clearly distinguished from the other. 3) "since there are many characters in the DC Comics milieu called "Jon Kent"" is not a true statement. Also, there is a huge difference between Jon Lane Kent and Jon Kent. Both are children of Superman and Lois Lane, However, Jon Lane Kent is a minor character with only a few comic appearances (June 2013 to October 2014), while Jon Kent is Superman and Lois's kid in DC canon with significant notability and recognition. When people search for "Jon Kent", they are looking for this character! Rootone (talk) 18:24, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per Rootone; I also think Jon Lane Kent should be redirected, a character from two storylines who has no notability beyond them. Born in the maw of dug (talk) 16:29, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Rootone: Also both Jon Kent (comics) and Jon Kent (character) redirect to Jon Kent (DC Comics); it should not be disambiguated further. I say also propose move to Jon Kent (comics) or Jon Kent (character). Born in the maw of dug (talk) 16:30, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Born in the maw of dug: Move to Jon Kent (character) since this is a biography article. I think we should move the Jon Lane Kent page info to the Superboy article in the Superboy (volume 6) section (this is where the character first appeared). The Jon Lane Kent page is not very long, and most of the info is just plot summaries. We can reduce the plot summaries if people think it might be too big for the Superboy section. The Jon Lane Kent page will become a redirect. Removing the Jon Lane Kent page also reduced some confusion. Rootone (talk) 14:32, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
