UDC

[edit]

The cemetery is marked as being maintained by the Ohio chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy. Is there any non-UDC sourcing which would be citable so that this could legitimately be added to the article that anyone has? 75.216.30.108 (talk) 01:18, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the US Department of Veterans Affairs page on the cemetery to use as another source. They have owned the site since 1931: http://www.cem.va.gov/cems/lots/confederate_stockade.asp (I have notified them of the error with the dates of the Mack-Houck Memorial and the Mary Patton Hudson Memorial.) Contradiction?

[edit]

'Johnson's Island was the only Union prison exclusively for Southern officers but it also held regular soldiers.'

Clarify, please. Valetude (talk) 10:00, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that, too. On the Confederate POWs Monuments within the cemetery, there are also the names of "Citizens" listed. Thank you, 06:52, 5 December 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.116.56.161 (talk)

Lost the focus?

[edit]

This article is supposed to be about Johnson's Island, but goes on to deal only with the Confederate cemetery that's on it. If there are no plans to expand the article to cover the whole island, then change the name of the article to that of the cemetery. As you can see from the US VA site, it's called the "Confederate Stockade Cemetery": http://www.cem.va.gov/cems/lots/confederate_stockade.asp. If you look at a satellite image of the island, you'd see that the cemetery takes up only a small fraction of the area. There are many buildings that appear to be homes, accompanied by cul-de-sacs, beaches, wharves, and at least one tennis court and maybe a swimming pool. I just looked at the island through AcmeMapper's Topo function - that bared area inland was a quarry at some point. Thanks again, Wordreader (talk) 02:44, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Actually, @Wordreader:, I was going to suggest the same thing. The article has nothing to do with the island but mostly what was done with the island. I was going to suggest the name change too, however, if its easier to create another page just for the island itself, maybe we can split the two? I'm better with NRHP/historical articles myself. I've tried island/topography and failed hard lol. Any suggestions or ideas, let me know. Thanks! FriarTuck1981 (talk) 23:31, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, there, FriarTuck1981. I never created an article before and wouldn't know how to go about it. I trust you to carry on, though. All the best and thank you, Wordreader (talk) 00:21, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
