Reversion

[edit]

I've reverted an edit that claims John's son Jacques, Count of Tripoli, was crowned King of Cyprus in Genoa in 1383. This appears to confuse Jacques with his uncle, James I of Cyprus. Choess (talk) 16:09, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since the edits have been re-added, a few points:
  1. I have not been able to find any source, other than the article on the Italian Wikipedia, that the son of John of Lusignan, the Count of Tripoli, was crowned King of Cyprus in 1383. Given that Jacques and James are just the French and English equivalents for the same name, it seems likely that the Italian Wikipedia article has confused the two.
  2. Wikipedia should not be cited as a source for other Wikipedia articles.
In the absence of independent sourcing that Jacques, son of John, was crowned King of Cyprus rather than or in addition to Jacques, son of Hugh IV, I will continue to exclude this material from the article. Choess (talk) 19:10, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is definitely an error. James I was in Genoa, in prison, when he succeeded to Jeruslam. This is the source of the confusion. I have corrected the Italian article (though I'm not sure that James was crowned in Genoa.). Srnec (talk) 21:21, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
