Merge
[edit]Is there a reason not to merge this with John Alden House? Murderbike (talk) 07:46, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the "John and Priscilla Alden Family Sites" is a combo that is a new NHL. There needs to be an article explaining this. It would be okay, in my view, for "John Alden House" to continue as a separate article, but perhaps it would be better to merge it into this article, where it could be one section, and the other site in the combo could be another section. On the other hand, it would not be okay, by me, to cover this NHL just in the "John Alden House" article. doncram (talk) 14:58, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, it definitely makes more sense to merge the lesser into the combo. Just as Pee-wee Herman is a part of the Paul Reubens article, I don't see any reason for the John Alden House to stand alone, apart from this article. Murderbike (talk) 18:01, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, i'll do that merger. Actually since there's more edit history in the John Alden House article, and i think it is almost all just my own sandbox edits in the history here, I will implement it by merging into that article and moving it, if I can. May require an admin's assistance. doncram (talk) 18:49, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

- My bad for not doing it back then. User:Jameslwoodward has now redirected John Alden House to here with edit summary "redirected to existing article which covers topic -- action previously discussed but not fully implemented....", and appears to be fixing up this merged article. Doing it this way separates the edit history that is in the John Alden House article, while I was willing to do it in way that would put that older edit history and just lose my own later edits. Oh well, too bad for the previous editors, though it is not such a huge deal and now i don't care about trying to fix that. The current situation is fine by me. I am done here. doncram (talk) 18:04, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

First and second house dates
[edit]The curator of the Alden historic site puts a finer edge on the dates that the homes were built here in this 2015 article: http://alden.org/content/aldenhistory2.pdf He est that the 2nd house built about 1672 and narrows the construction of the first section to Jonathan Alden.
