Though there is widespread agreement that his birthday was September 5, there is apparently some disagreement over the year.
Some sources (including bioguide.congress.gov, Findagrave.com, and his gravestone) give his year of birth as 1834. Other sources (including Geni, WorldCat, Who's Who in America, Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography, and contemporary obituaries) give his year of birth as 1835.
