Oliver Tweedy

[edit]

Someone added, probably copying from a book of Rose:

Oliver Tweedy, a British journalist who covered the Middle East, wrote Chancellor admitted to him that he did not like the Jews, calling them "an ungrateful race".<ref>Evyatar Friesel, 'Through a Peculiar Lens: Zionism and Palestine in British Diaries, 1927-31, Middle Eastern Studies (1993), vol. 29, no. 3, pp. 419-44.</ref>

That source reports on diaries and private correspondence of Tweedy and Chancellor, but it does not appear to contain a statement that Chancellor said such a thing to Tweedy. Tweedy described Chancellor as "stable and honest, searching for a middle way in a country where everybody tended to extremes" (p427), though I'm not sure Tweedy is notable enough for this to go into our article. The phrase "an ungrateful race" appeared in a letter Chancellor wrote to his son Christopher (p428). Zerotalk 08:39, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
