Question

[edit]

Does anyone know how long he has served as an Assistant US attorney?

No I don't. So far I've found it impossible to get any information other than what I picked up in the initial articles that just came out. I can't even verify that he's a registered Republican, though many are claiming that. A B Carter (talk) 20:58, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stub?

[edit]

Should a stub link be added to this article, or do people think that this will get taken care of due to his recent passing?SailorAlphaCentauri 03:55, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would venture to suggest we don't need to know any more about this one Twinchester 03:20, 8 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Twinchester (talkcontribs)

Does anyone object to changing the display name from John Atchison to John David R. Atchison?

The reason for this change is there is a lawyer with the same name in Canada, who has no affiliation with or relation to the former attorney in Florida, but because of Google's search engine algorithm, his photo is appears next to the description. After over 50 error reports to Google and numerous attempts at speaking to them the change has not been made.

I tried to dig through back newspapers, etc., to find the common name used, and it seems like a fuller form is pretty much always used, so some sort of change in this direction is not only possibly helpful to you, but is also suggested by other Wikipedia policies. Based on those guidelines and the sources I've seen, I've used "John David Roy Atchison".
I will add, however, that it may not help the Canadian lawyer in question, for a number of reasons specific to Google's search algorithms and so forth. It is unfortunate that the name conflation at the heart of this causes them difficulty. --j⚛e deckertalk 19:18, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

John David Roy AtchisonJohn Atchison – This is his name as most commonly reflected in RSs. Compare "this name google search with this name google search. Though those results include non RSs, the RSs are at the top, and show the same large leaning towards the more common shorter version of the name. It is already a redirect. But no need to encumber the project with this longer name, out of step with other articles at the project. 2603:7000:2143:8500:9B8:B23B:7DDC:518E (talk) 20:53, 26 January 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Colonestarrice (talk) 23:24, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I'm not convinced "John Atchinson" is the common name. Go to the Google News tab for the first search query, and you get 5 unrelated results about the Cosby trial. For the second query (the one that uses the current title), we get 5 results which are all about the subject of the article. I see a similar pattern browsing the sources cited in the article. They tend to use his full name (though sometimes reducing parts to initials, e.g. "John D.R. Atchinson"). Colin M (talk) 19:34, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support though I don't like it. News sources about people accused of a crime tend to use full names with middle initials. If all the sources do that, it is a sign this person is only notable for a criminal act, and should only have an article if that act was notable. But that's a different discussion. This fixes the immediate issue on a non-BLP article. User:力 (powera, π, ν) 02:13, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
