Jital coins wikipage

[edit]

Great effort to start a page on this subject ! Some factual errors: The earliest bull and horseman jitals are in name of Spalapati Deva, not Splalapati. Where Spalapati likely is a conjunct with "Spala" coming from early Persian meaning "army", and "pati" from Sanskrit for "master". So probably it is the title for the army commander and not a personal name. The example coin labelled as Prithviraja III actually is a Muhammad bin Sam specimen as is clearly displayed in the legend on the coin. 2A02:A468:C365:1:7097:C23A:2AC8:7B0A (talk) 08:01, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Can you refer me to a source of the etymology of Spalapati? Quezerque (talk) 15:24, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For the origin of spalapati you might refer to the 1976 thesis of Abdur Rehman "The last two dynasties of the Shahis". He discusses this matter. This also is one of the standard works in literature about the history of the Shahi of Ohind and Kabul and their coinage. This thesis is also easy to find online. 2A02:A468:C365:1:7097:C23A:2AC8:7B0A (talk) 19:25, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Saw you made some improvements, great ! The legend around the bull is still wrong. It is "Sri MaHaMaDa SaMe".
The left picture of the Tughluq coin is upside-down. 2A02:A468:C365:1:7097:C23A:2AC8:7B0A (talk) 20:41, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I had a lot of trouble trying to read it. Quezerque (talk) 20:30, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
