Plot Overview
[edit]The plot overview section is kinda disproportionate. Jiraiya did more than just fight Pain. -unsigned
Sage or Hermit?
[edit]I'm curious. Last I checked 仙人 translated into Hermit, not Sage. So...yeah..correct? Wrong? Simply not used? What? EDIT: Heck, Sennin translates to Hermit so that just compounds it...--TheUltimate3 (talk) 02:02, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- Viz uses "Sage". ~SnapperTo 05:03, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ah. Thank you kindly.--17:06, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- To elaborate on what was maybe your reason for asking, since he's called "Toad Sage" and "Pervy Sage", it doesn't make much sense to use "Hermit Mode". Consistent translations and whatnot. ~SnapperTo 00:17, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Second name
[edit]Does Jiraiya have a second name? NarSakSasLee (talk) 13:42, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Nope. For some reason several characters from the series have only one name.Tintor2 (talk) 14:14, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Does that include manga? NarSakSasLee (talk) 20:23, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yep. Also, the databooks only call him Jiraiya.Tintor2 (talk) 17:03, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Image?
[edit]What happened to the character image in the infobox? かんぱい! Scapler (talk) 09:23, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- I suppose that a user removed it, and we forgot to revert it, so it was deleted.Tintor2 (talk) 13:10, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Why did you not replace it with a different photo from the show?Misslindsie (talk) 08:12, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Name Meaning
[edit]The original 'Jiraiya' (児雷也)means something like 'young thunder,' but this is not the case for the Jiraiya of Naruto. 自来也 is pronounced 'Jiraiya' but has a different meaning. The mention of 'Young Thunder' should be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.122.145.28 (talk) 23:47, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

I'll review this nomination. Initial comments should be posted soon. --1ST7 (talk) 01:20, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Here's the review:
- Well-written
- The biggest issue with the way the article is written is that it doesn't really comply with Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction. The discussion of the character should be told from a nonfictional perspective, but this article is written mostly in an in-universe form. It needs more secondary information, such as a section detailing the creation and conception of the character and perhaps more about its real-world influence.
- This phrase is somewhat confusing: "Orochimaru when betrayed Konha, Jiraiya pursued him and tried to convince him to return."
- The wording for this is a little awkward: "Several reviewers for manga, anime, video games, and other related media have provided praise on Jiraiya's character." I would suggest rewording it to something like this: "Several manga, anime, and video game reviewers have praised the character of Jiraiya."
- In the reception section, it's better not to use the word "note" or any of its variants to describe something a person said, as it is on the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch list.
- Verifiable with no original research:
- Pretty much everything is cited, but the article relies on references to primary sources.
- Broad in its coverage:
- See the first point under "well-written".
- Neutral:
- Stable:
- Illustrated, if possible, by images:
I'll put the article on hold for a week to give you time to address these issues. Thanks for your work on this! --1ST7 (talk) 05:01, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- As it has been a week and no improvements have been made to the article, I'm afraid I'm going to have to fail it. In the meantime, you are welcome to address the issues raised and re-nominate the article in the future. --1ST7 (talk) 03:43, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
