Controversy

Googled variations of "Jimmy Kimmel NBA Controversy", and came up with a maximum of 211 hits. Seems pretty non-notable, and even though his show was affected for a single episode, there is nothing on that page that mentions it. Therefore I will remove it, and if someone wants to add a note on the show's page go for it.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Azmaverick623 (talkcontribs) .

Middle Name

I have no idea where 'ahlond' came from. Google didn't provide anything useful. I changed it to Christian, believing the IMDB is a reliable source 69.173.115.35

Matt Damon

Why does he always say "Sorry to Matt Damon, we ran out of time." Its just annoying. --Yancyfry jr 05:08, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I had actually added it to both this article and Matt Damon's long ago, but it apparently got deleted.68.255.253.246 09:08, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Win Ben Stein's Money

Wasn't he replaced on Win Ben Stein's Money by Nancy Pimental? His cousin was a guest host for a few episodes after Nancy left, if I recall correctly, but there were many more episodes with Nancy. 69.118.247.101 05:37, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

When Jimmy left to do The Man Show, Nancy Pimental stepped into the role as co-host of WBSM. After one season, she was replaced by Cousin Sal; Sal was the permanent co-host of Win Ben Stein's money for the rest of the run of the show. Because the episodes of Win Ben Stein's Money are often aired out of order, it sometimes appears as though there are rotating co-hosts. Bourne 23:14, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Larry King

Someone put in some heavily, heavily biased comments slamming Kimmel for his recent interview with the Gawker.com editor, from his guest-hosting stint on Larry King Live. I took the liberty of removing them, as they do not belong here.

Sexual Preference

Until I just edited it, the wiki page said he was gay. I'm assuming this was a cruel joke because I checked his website and it clearly states "I'm not gay." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.78.10.96 (talk) 22:19, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Controversies Plagiarism

The controversies section is lifted directly from the New York Times Articles. Although the section properly cites to the Times article it does not contain proper quote marks indicating that it is directly quoting its source. The author of the Times article should get credit for the writing since it is his/her's not the wikipedia editor's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.217.227.68 (talk) 02:55, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Removed section on Matt Damon

I removed the section that talks about the running joke, the song with Sarah Silverman, and Jimmy Kimmel's song with Ben Affleck. Information on specific jokes and sketches isn't notable enough to be included in a biography on Jimmy Kimmel. There is already information about it at Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and that's where it belongs. If anyone disagrees, please explain why here or in an edit summary. --Mysdaao talk 16:25, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

MNF Controversy

If this is important, somone needs to re-write it so it doesn't copy word from word the New York Times article it cites:

On Monday, October 15, 2007, Kimmel was banned from ESPN's Monday Night Football. Kimmel was put on early in the third quarter and joked about how Joe Theismann was fired and replaced by Ron Jaworski. He cracked that it was Tony Kornheiser who got Theismann fired and asked Kornheiser and Jaworski if they bet on games. He also said, "I'd also like to welcome Joe Theismann, watching from his living room with steam coming from his ears." The last remark was ignored by Kornheiser, Jaworski, and Mike Tirico. Theismann was more amused than annoyed by Kimmel's comments, some of which he heard while watching TV at home. The following week on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Terry Bradshaw presented Jimmy with a personally autographed photo of Joe Theismann, which read: "Dear Jimmy, Thanks for always having my back. Joe Theismann."http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/17/sports/football/17kimmel.html?_r=2&ref=sports&oref=slogin&oref=slogin New York Times article]

Snakebite

Rather funny bit. I hopped on Wikipedia to check out if there was an update. Sure enough, there were back-to-back updates about it, only to be "staged" on the show. VexedTechie 04:39, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

I heard about the snakebite for the first time tonight. Saw the vid on YouTube. When did that happen? Thought it was weird that the snake got free of its handler. I'm sure the bite wasn't envenomed; they would have milked the rattler beforehand. George415 (talk) 09:42, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I just watched the "snakebite" again. The handler thrusts the "rattler" at Kimmel! What crap! George415 (talk) 09:49, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Current Girlfriend?

At one point it refers to Sarah Silverman as his current girlfriend, in another it refers to her as his "ex-girlfriend". Someone fix this.

Kimmel's Camel

Maybe I should watch Entertainment Tonight more, but what's this stuff about Kimmel loving camels? Is it some sort of joke he's got going on? I mean, it's hardly libelous, so not of serious concern, but it seems there is some insistence on adding it. There's a cite tag on it, so please, find a citation for it. If we can't find one soon, I'm removing the camel reference, and will revert any continued attempts to add it uncited. Thanks! Vicenarian (talk) 13:04, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Still reverting out any unsourced camel references, folks. Vicenarian (T · C) 16:46, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Narcolepsy

I don't feel comfortable making the change myself, but there Narcolepsy does not come in different forms. Narcolepsy is Narcolepsy, however, it is possible to have mild Narcolepsy, its just not possible to have a mild form of Narcolepsy. It's neither a claim nor unsubstantiated. Kimmel has talked about his narcolepsy in many published interviews including the NY Times and Esquire. "let's kill all Chinese" from his talk show Oct. 2013

This is not any funny joke. What about that "Chinese" words become people of his race or country? Will Jimmy still think "that is an interesting idea"? I do not think so. He and ABC is promoting hatred. This part of the show should never be broadcasted. "Jimmy Kimmel test"

Kimmel's advocacy for health care after the birth of his son, including the "Jimmy Kimmel test," has been reported by so many WP:RS, and Kimmel feels so strongly about it, that it clearly belongs in the article under WP:WEIGHT. Among other things, Kimmel called Cassidy a "liar."

I'm going to try to find other stories, but here's one that expresses it clearly from a secondary source, NPR:

Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., touted Tuesday on Capitol Hill that his plan passes the "Jimmy Kimmel test."

That is a phrase the lawmaker coined back in May because the late night host has been outspoken about his young son's heart condition and the amount of money it would cost someone who didn't have health insurance before the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, became law to obtain the kind of care his son has needed.

"I ask, 'Does it pass the "Jimmy Kimmel test"?' " Cassidy, a medical doctor, said in May of Republican health care proposals. "Will a child born with congenital heart disease be able to get everything she or he would need in the first year of life? I want it to pass the 'Jimmy Kimmel test.' "

In the first paragraph, the past tense word "hosted" is used to describe Kimmel's hosting the Oscars in 2017 and 2018. Since the 2018 ceremony hasn't happened yet, he hasn't hosted it. Between "and" and "2018" it should say "is scheduled to return as host in" or something like that. 2602:306:BC31:4AA0:14FB:D89B:6143:FAB7 (talk) 16:47, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Actually Me | GQ

https://youtube.com/MzrbqsBNh8Q?t=290 is a video link to Jimmy Kimmel going "under cover," and seems to include some personal details about his life. The relevant section is already linked. He "edits" his Wikipedia profile to include the certain facts. linked in this blockquote:

His brother, Jonathan, works on the show as a director. His sister, Jill, is a comedian. He has a son, Kevin, who works on the show as a production assitant. He has a daughter, Katie, who is a ceramics artist. He also has a three-year-old daughter named Jane and an eight-month-old son named Billy.

Per WP:PRIMARY, we can use primary sources for straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further, specialized knowledge. I'd like to start a discussion as to whether or not we can add these statements based on the WP:PRIMARY source of the Youtube video. Though WP:BLPSOURCES is of concern, it mentions contentious material, and I don't believe this material is contentious. It's well known that the names of his children are Jill, Kevin, Katie, and Billy whom which Jimmy has been more than open sharing to the world, per the video itself. It's also very likely that User:yalefried is the account that was used either by Jimmy or authorized by Jimmy, given the video was published today but the exact content of the video was revealed 3 days prior. Tutelary (talk) 23:23, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

I agree that it is acceptable to use the video as a source. If secondary sources can be found, they would be better though. Quite a bit of what he said is already in the article and not everything he said belongs in the article. - Samuel Wiki (talk) 04:02, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
It appears that the content was edited to include the above statement in its entirety. I do not disagree with this, though we have to be careful of WP:COI and ensure via our second hand opinion that it is not biased. In its current form, I don't believe it is. Cheers. Tutelary (talk) 19:49, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
I think it looks good, but I think we should remove the age of his children - it's going to be out-dated very fast. Indeed, the eight-month old son is surely nine months old by now. I'm not sure what the best way to deal with that would be. Maybe something like He also has a daughter named Jane (born c. 2014) and a son named Billy (born 2017).? I don't like the way that looks. Maybe someone else will have a more elegant solution? -- irn (talk) 19:44, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Just the fact that he dressed us as an NBA played doesn't sound like it would necessarily merit mention in the article, but depending on the incident and what kind of coverage it received and impact it may have had, it could be. Could you link to the sources you have and maybe suggest a wording for the text you would like? An entire section that never would have appeared in the old Britannica encyclopedia?

Is this section necessary for Jimmy Kimmel's encyclopedia entry?

Personally, I think not.

Why doesn't Wikipedia at least try to delete sections like this which never would have been included in the old Britannica encyclopedias?

Section in question:

"In February 2008, Kimmel showed a mock music video with a panoply of stars called "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck", as "revenge" after his then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman and Damon recorded a similar video titled "I'm Fucking Matt Damon". Silverman's video originally aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and became an "instant YouTube sensation." Kimmel's "revenge" video featured himself, Ben Affleck, and a large lineup of stars, particularly in scenes spoofing the 1985 "We Are the World" video: Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Cameron Diaz, Robin Williams, Harrison Ford, Dominic Monaghan, Benji Madden and Joel Madden from Good Charlotte, Lance Bass, Macy Gray, Josh Groban, Huey Lewis, Perry Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Pete Wentz, Meat Loaf, Rebecca Romijn, Christina Applegate, Dom Joly, Mike Shinoda, Lauren Conrad, and Joan Jett, among others."

So, the profanity has three negative outcomes here according to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Should_Wikipedia_use_profanity%3F#Cons :

"1. Wikipedia will be blocked by offensive content filters. In fact, it's happening already. I was at an Internet cafe yesterday and tried to check Recent Changes. One swear word caused the filtering program to flag en.wikipedia.org as a site "not suitable for public viewing". As many schools use such software, this would especially hurt Wikipedia's value as an educational tool.

2. Certain people may not be permitted to use Wikipedia. This is related to the first con, only this time, the filters are other people. The big example would be parents not letting their children use Wikipedia because of some offensive content.

3. Offended people will not contribute to Wikipedia. There may be very intelligent, knowledgeable people who would be turned off of Wikipedia simply because they are offended by any use of profanity, no matter what the context." 50.220.95.37 (talk) 20:12, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Who decides what a "controversy" is?

Why is it when there is some media created furore, it always pops up in an article on Wikipedia in a section headed "controversy"? Almost all of these sections of so-called controversy are just an endless stream of examples of WP:UNDUE. In this article on Kimmel, is there really a need to have a controversy section about a one-time gag that went awry or another about some weak transgressions that happened in private etc. Are sections entitled "controversy" really required? Of course not, it's because simply cut and pasting and plagiarizing news article elevates these events into stand alone WP:UNDUE moments when in fact they should be added into the body text of the article. The definition of a controversy is a "prolonged public disagreement or heated discussion." Note the key word, prolonged, which means "continuing for a long time or longer than usual; lengthy." When I see so-called controversy sections, I always think they are dubious and not done in WP:GF because the events they often report are usually one-time gaffs or indiscretions which can be written up within the context of the greater section or article. There is no balance in creating a litany of black marks against someone it just smacks of personal disaffection.

These controversy sections should be deprecated and the body text edited into the parent section. 150.143.66.197 (talk) 12:11, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Kimmel dressed as Oprah in blackface

Kimmel dressed as Oprah in blackface too. Right now, the article incorrectly states that Kimmel only dressed up as Karl Malone in blackface. However, he actually dressed up as Oprah while wearing blackface too. Can someone add this correction? This is important because an isolated incident is different that a pattern of bahaviour. 208.98.222.116 (talk) 03:14, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Jill Kimmel

You’re forgetting to mention his sister Jill Kimmel who is also very successful in her own right. 2600:8800:21E:C500:E9C1:1428:8096:BA95 (talk) 16:30, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
