Thanks to everyone for participating. I'm Laura, Jim HIghtower's research director. I've been trying to correct some misleading and incorrect data (for instance, Jim Hightower did NOT endorse any candidates in the 2004 Democratic primaries). In previous entrys someone wrote that Jim supported Tom Harkin in the 1992 presidential election and gave his superdelegate votes to Jerry Brown. That information not correct. Also, Jim didn't disdain Bill Clinton (nor his centrism). However, he didn't like President Clinton's pro-corporate policies.

  • I don't know, but I'd imagine that working for Jim Hightower would require that you actually read his books, which you evidently haven't. Let's take, for example, There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road but Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos, his first book. On page 41 of the paperback edition, he writes, and I'm quoting directly here, "In the Democratic primaries, I had supported Senator Tom Harkin' failed bid for the nomination, then moved on to Jerry Brown when Harkin bailed out." Strike one for you. Now, as to his opinion of Bill Clinton, on page 41, he writes of Clinton, saying: "I was such a latecomer to Clinton's bandwagon because I did know him politically...Just as he now is in the White House, I found Governor Bill eager to be 'for the small farmers of Arkansas'--as long as this did not require him to do anything that might actually help them." On page 42: "While I knew Clinton was no FDR, no LBJ, and maybe not even a Jimmy Carter, I felt that he would at least not push Republican policies to crush the middle-class and the poor. (OK, so I underestimated the big galoot, but it seemed a fair assumption at the time.)" On page 63, he refers to Clinton and the senior George Bush as "two weakling presidents who have had their heads stuck up their asses the previous eight years while their corporate funders ran rampant over the middle class." Is this sounding like contempt yet? Page 106: "Clinton operates like a light bulb not screwed into a socket very tightly; he occasionally flickers with brightness, but he never gets a steady light." Don't give me that "Hightower respected Clinton" baloney. He referred to him regularly as "the Republican in the White House." So please, tell me another one about how well you know Jim Hightower.--12.217.121.245 05:10, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Listen, there's no need to get rough, here. Both Laura and I (I work for Hightower Lowdown) are thrilled that so many people are so attentive on this bio page. However, your attitude is certainly not in the spirit of the Wikipedia, and your statements don't reflect any kind of endorsements of Democrats. None of what we keep taking out is in any of his books/writings, and you should be a little more willing to have some respect in the community. --Randomdeanna 15:43, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
What you keep taking out damn well is in his books. And I don't see what an endorsement of the Democrats has to do with anything. If anything, he said even nastier things about the Democrats in general than about Bill Clinton in particular.

--12.217.121.245 21:17, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What we're taking are misstatements and exaggerations. Laura had an in depth, point-by-point discussion with Hightower on Friday about what he's done and not done, and those things aren't a matter of opinion or nuance: they're facts. So, we are taking the time to edit the facts, as per Hightower's very own records.--Randomdeanna 22:58, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe you. --12.217.121.245 14:16, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The "stuff" being added to this page is not false, unless you're calling Jim Hightower a liar. --12.217.121.245 21:18, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Your hostility is completely unwarranted and unnecessary. We would have been more than willing to have non-machismo-infused discussions with you about Hightower's history, but you have proven so quickly to be unreasonable. And not for the first time, either, I see from your history.--Randomdeanna 22:58, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello again,
I'm correcting some information that keeps being posted. If anyone has questions, please feel free to contact me. It's my hope that those who participate in this discussion maintain a polite and respectful tone. Laura74 22:02, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More changes

[edit]

Please note, Jim did not cast his superdelegate vote for Jerry Brown -- his superdelegate vote went to then Governor Clinton.

If anyone has any questions regarding Jim's bio, I urge those persons to contact me. Again, it is my hope that the tone of this discussion on this message board will BECOME civil and polite, as the discussion has not been recently.Laura74 15:31, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation

[edit]

Please see the questions on Jim Hightower Mediation Cabal page. Thanks, Steven McCrary 00:37, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Did the users of this page go to mediation for nothing? I notice that the Wikipedia:Edit war policy is being ignored by both parties. I am issuing a warning to both sides on their user pages. Steven McCrary 20:55, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have received a response from User:Laura74, and posted it on the Mediation Cabal Web page. I am now awaiting a response from 12.217.121.245. SteveMc 22:23, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have issued my final response on the Mediation of the Jim Hightower page at Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/12_December_2005/Jim_Hightower. Good luck, SteveMc 01:30, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Jimhightowerthievesinhighplaces.jpg

[edit]

Image:Jimhightowerthievesinhighplaces.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with The Hightower Lowdown

[edit]

This page seems way to sparse, and too enthusiastic for Wikipedia. Look, I like the guy too, but I think it makes more sense to merge these two articles while rewriting it towards a more neutral tone. Ipatrol (talk) 19:31, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I dont think so for your reasoning is laking hugely. --Kharon (talk) 21:11, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
