Is it just me...
[edit]...or is this article more about the tune types than the dance? This would seem to conflict with the {{otheruses}} tag at the top of the page... — SheeEttin {T/C} 17:30, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know that it conflicts, precisely. The tune type is intimately related to the dance, and the dab page has nothing more relevant. Still, more dance-related content would indeed be welcome. --Craig Stuntz 17:47, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
I've changed the description of 6/8 time to 2, not 6, beats per measure (each containing 3 eighth-notes). This agrees with Concise Grove and other music theory books. Also, though I'm not an expert on traditional Irish music, my impression of what I have heard is that a jig of 6 eighth-note beats would be much too slow at the typical tempi mentioned later in the article.Dayfield (talk) 14:23, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
I've done some very brief editing. (SNK) —Preceding unsigned comment added by ShinobiNoKami (talk • contribs) 00:26, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Consider this a question: I was trying to research the etymology of the racially bigoted usage of this word, and did not find any allusion to it here. Is that conventional, or an oversight regarding the content of this article? Likewise, I note that there is little or no mention of many other perfectly cromulent definitions for the word, if I remember correctly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.98.166.242 (talk) 13:49, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Irish Own the Jig?
[edit]I was puzzled coming to this article. Jigs are most associated with Ireland today, but they were also developed in England. I expected this to be a general article about the jig from the title. I do not wish to tread on anyone's toes, but either this article needs renaming, or (my preference) it needs to include other countries (even if this does make a change from all the Anglo-centric and American-centric articles on Wikipedia).--Sabrebd (talk) 01:33, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
There were no objections so I modified the start of the article to reflect origins while making current use clear.--Sabrebd (talk) 11:48, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
12/8 isn't necessarily compound duple time that would be assuming that it's divided into 6 eighth notes instead of three which would be quadruple compound time. Wouldn't it be better to use 6/8 as an example? This is much more likely to be compound duple than anything else. - Anonymous wiki reader. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.48.163.40 (talk) 17:25, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, it's still really Hiberno-centric. Unfortunately I don't know enough to add any info. eyeball226 (talk) 06:13, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- You may need to become much more embracing: - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genuine_Negro_Jig Fuficius Fango (talk) 16:20, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
Navy sailors did the jig?
[edit]Didn't Navy seamen fighting Napoleon dance the jig? Of course, some of them were Irish.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 17:01, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
