Arbitrary section
[edit]Why is it that no one creates Wiki pages on anyone until they die? Seriously. People always orgasm at the idea of being the first to create a Wiki article, and usually only do so when they read the headlines on yahoo.com or something else non-credible. What a poor excuse to creat an article. And even then, the information is always loaded with premature information, unverified by anyone, not cited. This is exactly why the Wikipedia domain has been banned by the best colleges/universities in this country.[citation needed] 207.237.250.76 (talk) 21:22, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Dryamaka
- I agree. he only has a page because he died today. it's absurd. Billywhack (talk) 21:56, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- Feel free to take it to WP:AFD however once the WP:PROD tag is contested in should not be replaced.--Cube lurker (talk) 22:01, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- If it weren't for his medals, I would agree with you.
I will leave the PROD tag up for a day or so for discussion. Then, if I'm not convinced he is non-notable, I will remove it.davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) It has been de-prodded. Please wait a few days before sending this to AFD to allow time for discussion here. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 22:08, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- I have asked for expert input from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorsport#Jeremy Lusk. If I jumped the gun and this guy really isn't notable,
I'll let the PROD expire.davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 22:06, 10 February 2009 (UTC) If this guy really isn't notable I'll recommend deletion myself. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 22:08, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- Disliking the reason that an article was created is not an excuse to run it down. Each article should be dealt with on the merits of the content, nothing else. Just because this guy had no article before today, it does not mean that he wasn't notable enough for one. Of course, if he wasn't notable enough, then the article will go. Instead of complaining when you see an unsourced article or one that you consider trivial or useless, why don't you *shock* do something about it? Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:14, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- I just saw his death announced on Yahoo!'s main page. If that isn't a strong indication of notability, then what is? I expect finding reliable sources for someone like that to be easy. Also, the X games are the championship for the sport. Look at how many articles link to his article. Royalbroil 01:17, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- Sooner or later, a page was going to be created for this athlete. It just so happened that he passed away before it could be created. He medaled at the X-games, what more do people want?--Jojhutton (talk) 04:12, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Not everything that merits an article has one yet. This is such an occurrence. Upon finding out about his death, many people searched WP for information, as they would about any subject they may want more information about. In this case, there was no article, so it was created. Visit recently created articles and see dozens of subjects that although notable, had no home at WP until today. Law shoot! 06:07, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I'd say that an athlete that medaled at the highest level of his/her sport would probably be notable. The (almost) absolute indication of notability is significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. A quick scout through Google News shows he's recieved this coverage from USA Today, LA Times & the NY Times (via. As. Press) amongst >200 other articles I can't be bothered to look through. IMO, he meets the criteria for notability. AlexJ (talk) 13:43, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- I think it's a shame that there was no page until this person died, but there is absolutely no question that he merits an article. It certainly shouldn't revolve all around his death, though. Keepscases (talk) 17:31, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Conflicting dates of death
[edit]Resolved - He died on Feb. 10th local time in Costa Rica. It was still Feb. 9th in California, which explains press releases and press reports that he died on that date. The official date of death is the 10th. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 14:55, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
This blog says he died at 11:30PM PST on the 9th. This Associated Press report says he died on Tuesday, which would be the 10th. Until this is clarified, please don't fix one date or the other. Within a few days, there should be an official press release from the family, and we can use that date. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 01:40, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- There is an official press release. See ref 1. It's contains time of death as released from his riding team spokesperson. Law shoot! 06:05, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, if you read carefully, it means the 9th. There is another press release that is actually dated 10 minutes before midnight on the 9th, that makes it clear he died on that day not the 10th. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 16:39, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- Greetings,
Ahem. We see that he died at 11:03Pm "PST" on his blog. However, San Jose, Costa Rica is in the CENTRAL TIME ZONE so that would be two hours ahead, namely 1:03AM CST or Feb. 10, 2009.24.98.65.128 (talk) 08:02, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- This is a good point. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 16:24, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Hart?
[edit]He performed a "Hart" (supposed to be heart) attack backflip that ironically ended his life, I'm not sure it should be changed but I doubt it's Hart unless it's named after someone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.125.178.180 (talk) 20:34, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- Both the AP article and the San Diego Union Tribune Article referenced in the article refer to it as a Hart Attack Backflip. They could both be wrong, but that what's been reported.--Cube lurker (talk) 20:40, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- Think I found it, I believe it was named for Carey Hart--Cube lurker (talk) 20:44, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- T'was named after Carey Hart. 69.123.33.176 (talk) 05:03, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Helmet
[edit]Can anyone say what helmet he was wearing (make and model) as some people might feel that it didn't protect him very well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.10.75.175 (talk) 19:42, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- Who cares what helmet he was wearing?--Giants27 TC 20:51, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
I do... so if you don't have anything useful to say, stfu, or answer the question.. -- xushi —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xushi (talk • contribs) 10:16, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Looking for a photo and additional career highlights
[edit]I posted the following to a picture-request section of the Metal Mulisha web site:
“ | Jeremy’s Wikipedia article would benefit from a photo. If you upload a photo, it should be either a picture you took or a photo which has already been released under a "free" license. The best way to upload it is to upload it to the Wikimedia Commons at http://commons.wikimedia.org then add a link to it on the Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Lusk. If you are not sure how to do this, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Jeremy_Lusk and add a comment saying you need help. DO NOT UPLOAD PICTURES WHICH YOU JUST “FIND ON A WEB SITE,” Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
Also, the article about him is a bit thin right now. It needs additional factual information about the most important races of his career along with reliable sources to back up the information. If you are an experienced Wikipedia editor, please go ahead and improve the article. If you are not, the best way to help is to add your suggestions to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Jeremy_Lusk. Be sure to include a citation from "reliable source" to back up what you want to add. "Reliable" means newspapers not blogs. The best sources are those that are "independent" of the subject. In other words, newspapers are much preferred over the Metal Mulisha web site and the Jeremy Rusk web site. For more information on what "reliable sources" are, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:RS. |

Please help watch this discussion page for editors who need help adding material.
Also watch the article for overeager fans adding material that needs rewording or which simply does not meet Wikipedia standards or which is not encyclopedic, such as "we miss him" and the like. There was a rash of that right after he died and as a result the article had to be semi-protected for a few days.
A note to anyone with a photo - we only need a single photo. A head-shot or a recognizable picture of him in work-related setting such as a press conference or even just giving a speech will be fine. Again, for legal reasons, don't submit pictures taken by other people or pictures you just "found" on a web site. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 01:19, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
