Merge issue
[edit]This article is a stub, but needs to be expanded, not merged. We have mare for horses, similar expansion is needed for Jennies, who are a little different from mares and their reproductive differences do warrant their own article as a spinoff from Donkey. Just a need for someone to do the work. Please do not redirect it. Montanabw(talk) 06:56, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
I really don't think so - everything here is covered under Donkey, and that article has much more text and actual references. Moreover, from your post above, you seem to want someone else to do the work that would be needed to fix this. If you want a better article, you should provide it. I'm considering just taking this to AfD. — Gavia immer (talk) 12:44, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- There is only one sentence in the donkey article that really discusses Jennies. (the word appears 10 times, but mostly in the section related to mules). It isn't so much a question of wanting someone else to do the work, it's more a question that there are 1500 articles in WikiProject Equine and this one isn't on the priority list yet. If you could be so kind as to have a bit of patience, it would be appreciated. Jennies have a different gestation period than mares, there are some other differences of significant interest. It is worth discussing, but there are only so many wiki-hours in a wiki-day and some of us have that darn thing called a real life that gets in the way. I'll try to find a few factoids to pop into the article to expand it a little bit, but I don't have the time to perform miracles. Montanabw(talk) 18:43, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- The expansion, and especially the references, look good. If you're going to be working on this article, I have no problem with keeping it. — Gavia immer (talk) 20:56, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- I've linked it to a new stub, Pule cheese. Bearian (talk) 22:28, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Merge revisited
[edit]The donkey article does not have the detailed information on jennies that this article contains. See Donkey#Breeding. I'm of mixed feelings on a merge, but if all the relevant information was moved, perhaps verbatim, incorporated with existing text there, I might not be opposed. Montanabw(talk) 17:41, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
- Actually all of the breeding information is in the Donkey article. What specifically do you think is missing? The discussion of jennet, molly and "mule mare" is not substantiated with citation. At best it should go into the Talk:Donkey page for discussion. --Bejnar (talk) 17:47, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
- The stats on low conception rate and some of the nuances on behavior. This is better footnoted too. I could see maybe doing a wholesale copy and paste from here to there, with a bit of smoothing to not exclude anything mentioned at the other article. Montanabw(talk) 18:34, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Montanabw: The stated conception rate was for horses which I didn't believe was appropriate in the donkey article, and apparently neither did the previous editor who added in the breeding material, but I have added it where it occurred in the parallel text and made its source explicit. I also added the citation from Rachau with associated text, and the duplicate citation to Sewell. --Bejnar (talk) 19:40, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Montanabw: You did not respond, so I thought that I had complied with what you suggested. What is missing? --Bejnar (talk) 06:55, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
- You did the merge after I posted the above. It is OK for the moment; I actually haven't had the time to review the merge, but if I see anything missing, I'll fix it. The only issue was that we don't usually do a cut and paste of the talk pages, we preserve the old one with the tag I added. Montanabw(talk) 23:40, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
