Collaboration or feature

[edit]

We have a similar situation to "Finesse" by Bruno Mars, which had several sources refer to the song as a collaboration with Cardi B as a lead artist, and several refer to it with Cardi B as a featuring artist. In that case, the label Atlantic Records[1], Spotify[2] and iTunes Store,[3] referred to Cardi B as a featured artist, while Billboard,[4] UK Singles Chart[5] and RIAA[6] identified the song as a collaboration. In the end, the song was determined to be a feature.

For "Jealousy", I argue that Cardi B should be identified as a featured artist. Here are the sources that refer to her as a feature:

1. Spotify, on both the single and album

1. On Motown Records (Offset's label)'s list of releases by Offset

2. On Motown Records's official store, the track list description for the album Set It Off in digital album, CD, and vinyl versions

3. On Offset's official store, the track list description for the album Set It Off in CD main cover, vinyl main cover, CD exclusive cover 1, CD exclusive cover 2, vinyl exclusive cover versions

3. Official track list announcement for Set It Off posted on Offset and Spotify's Instagram pages (secondary source for announcement here)

4. Official single announcement on Cardi B's Twitter page

5. The NZ Hot 40 Singles Chart, as reported by Record Music NZ, the official New Zealand recording music industry association

On the other hand, she is referred to as a collaboration on Apple Music, YouTube, and Billboard. I argue that Offset and his label intended Cardi B as a feature based on their official websites and announcements, and therefore she should be considered a feature.
