Article rewriting

Article rewritten, to some extent. Not satisfactory however.-$@ur@BH-- 17:28, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello

I am from Jamshedpur and I feel this article poorly developed. It contains nothing but big lists of names and places. Anyone else who would want to rewrite the article? -$@ur@BH--

  • Jamshedpur is perhaps the first Indian city, which was planned from its birth. The industrial city has contributed immensely to India's industrilization and growth. Editors who are familiar with the city are requested to further develop the article, say on the lines of Chennai. Thank you.--Bhadani 18:23, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

i proud to be jamshedpurian "first private Iron and Steel company of India, Tata Steel" - ?? Sounds wierd. the government owned companies were set up around 50 years later and IISCO was also privately owned for a long time.

WP:INDIA Banner/Jharkhand workgroup Addition

{{WP India}} with Jharkhand workgroup parameters was added to this article talk page because the article falls under Category:Jharkhand or one of its subcategories. Should you feel this addition is inappropriate , please undo my changes and update/remove the relavent categories to the article -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 10:27, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Drastic edits

The article has been altered extensively, in a rather cavalier manner, by an anonymous editor, who has failed to provide sources for the added material or explanations for the deleted material. All of it has the appearance of Original Research, a no-no on Wikipedia. If these are worthy edits, they should be done properly. Reverting.Fconaway (talk) 06:12, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

IS MAKING THE PAGE LOOK BETTER IS VANDALISM ??? !!!

Hi i am devx101 , i don't know why some people are repeatedly referring to my work as vandalism.

i am a citizen of jamshedpur and i have felt that the page was under developed with no images.

i would like to take credit that as of 26 th feb,2010 i have uploaded as many as of 7 out of 7 images of jamshedpur,i also kept on adding repeatedly the section JAMSHEDPUR ONE OF THE 6 BEST INTERNATIONAL CITIES (which in every sense is true) but some people kept repeatedly deleting the section due to no apparent reason (perhaps they are not from jamshedpur).

IF THIS IS VANDALISM LET IT BE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Devx101 (talkcontribs) 18:56, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

I appreciate your work in making Jamsedhpur page better, but using someone else photograph is not a

good practice. If you are citizen of place ,please take effort in taking photos and uploads better quality image and help in contributing the Wikipedia page of Jamsedhpur.Wikipedia works on citation and references and just writing "JAMSHEDPUR ONE OF THE 6 BEST INTERNATIONAL CITIES" doesn't suffice. For your help i am contributing my photos which were taken with effort.Alokprasad (talk) 20:32, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

VANDA LISM help!!!

some awant bhagat has reportedly blanked the notable jamshedpurians coloumn and has also done a lot of vandalism to the page.

NEW PICTURES PLEASE !!!!!!!!1

JAMSHEDPUR page really needs a lot of pictures. the page if compared to other cities is clearly in not a very visually good shape.

though there are many good pic s of the city in the web, they can't readilly be used. i recently uploaded a lot of them but most where deleted due to copyright problems , though i dont think the orignal copyright holders had any problem with the use of images (they were mostly deleted by fellow wikipedians).

hence kindly upload images to the image gallery.................... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Devx101 (talkcontribs) 14:25, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Regarding having a separate page for List of people from Jamshedpur

Hello , i wanted to make a discussion as to the removal of the section on List of people from jamshedpur from the main article as i have created a separate article on List of people from jamshedpur because this list is growing and its not justified being a part of the main page.. The main page can use some of the prominent names of the celebs from jamshedpur and the rest can be accomodated in a seperate article. PLease Discuss... (Also note that most of the other cities pages follows this practice) Awant Bhagat (talk) 04:47, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

I Agree with the opinion ,list will grow and will overshadow main article and its content.Alokprasad (talk) 05:04, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

I am going ahead and making it into a new page List of people from Jamshedpur and blanking that section from the main article. Awant Bhagat (talk) 10:07, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Some jaspel has reverted ur reduced list of notable jamshedpurians. I thought that it was a Great work Devx101, a comendable job of having a reduced list instead of the bigger one. See if you can get back the small list on the page, it was doing justice to the page .Awant Bhagat (talk) 08:47, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

New Article on tatanagar railway station

hi, i am --Devx101 (talk) 18:36, 19 May 2010 (UTC) i have created a new page on the railway station of jamshedpur namedTatanagar Railway Station. kindly visit the page and make subsequent edits to enhance it by adding more information like new trains/amenities/records/ any facts etc. Being an important station it was necessary to build this page. kindly take due example of pages of other railway stations of india for enhancing it.Add more photos if possible to the gallery.

Photographs of Jamshedpur

It is a repeated request to people to kindly add new and latest photographs of the city to the page.Their is a great dearth of quality photo in the page.If u have any problem posting the photographs urself then kindly mail to my email id devx101@yahoo.co.in, i would be happy to add the photos myself. And kindly post photos of various sections of city and not just the same bistupur/jubilee/dimna lake (i think we have a lot of them). Sakchi/mango/adityapur/pardih/kadma/sonari/telco/baridih/sidhgora/CH area/northen town/railway station/burmamines we need even more.Photographs of other industries like Telco(inside),Tata power,BOC,Praxir, entire adityapur with the industrial belt, usha martin,TAYO,Tinplate, lafarge and many more.

In sites like flickr also there are just 3000 photos of jamshedpur compared to the kolkatas 100000.It seems like we have a population of just 2 or 3 lakh and not 14-15 lakh as projected. It personally took me a lot of time to select a find a photo just for the skyline .Where are all the guys, come, post!!!. --Devx101 (talk) 18:37, 19 May 2010 (UTC) -- devx101 [TALK] 15:55, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

WRONG AREA

The area of jamshedpur given in the article is clearly wrong.it is not 250 sq. km.if u multiply it density you get a population of 3 lakh. moreover i find that the nos have been taken from district govt website.it clearly states that the the total 250 sq. km is total forest and agricultural land and not the area of inhabitation. Hence i have changed it to 149 sq. km under the the reference of a much better source.it is the jnnurum report of 2006,it is a comprehensive study of jamshedpur as has a lot of information related to present and future development .And it covers all the areas of JUA jamshedpur urban agglomeration.hence it is much more reliable. websites of tata steel and other quote different values as it only considers the tata controlled areas and the not the entire agglomeration. http://www.jnnurm.nic.in/nurmudweb/cdp_apprep_pdf/CDP_Appraisals_CEPT/Jamshedpur_CEPT.pdf

{{Edit semi-protected}}

Request for: semi-protection

please change no-protection to semi-protected It has been seen that some anonymous users are repeatedly posting/editing and adding names of particular institutes to the Education and research section. It has a repeated pattern with non-particular name, the section already contains names of imp. institutes and further adding are encouraged in the article List of educational institutes in Jamshedpur. If the step is not taken then the page could get ruined by addition of some 170 more schools in this section and page as sell.

Sections of the city

the following section has been reorganized and shortened for the betterment of the page. The section had too many entries some of them being unworthy hence been removed. It is a kind req. not to indulge in an edit war as the entities removed have been moved to their worthier 'parent section of the city'. The present names are widely accepted as being the major parts of the city. It may need further revision to further shorten it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Devx101 (talkcontribs) 20:03, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Jamshedpur/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Reviewer: Dana boomer (talk) 00:44, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I'll be reviewing this article for GA status and should have the full review up shortly. Dana boomer (talk) 00:44, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
    • Sections should not be composed of a single bullet point that doesn't even have a full sentence, such as the Jamshedpur in popular culture section.
    • The see also list should be trimmed. Links that are already included in the article can be removed, as can any low-value links.
    • There are far too many lists in this article. They should only be used when absolutely necessary; otherwise, they should be turned into prose.
    • There is excess bolding throughout the article.
    • What is the criteria for the Places of interest section? Because it's not referenced, it's hard to tell. Same for the notable people section.
    • Way too many short paragraphs. Paragraphs of one or two sentences should be expanded or combined with other paragraphs.
    • The lead should not include information that is not in the body of the article - it should simply be a summary of the body.
    • Because of all of the other issues with the article, I have not done a complete prose check.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
    • This article is extensively under-referenced. This is especially pertinent in sections like History, where "legends" are told without references, and Demographics, where statistics are given without references.
    • Many references are missing vital information, such as titles, publishers and access dates. Because of the lack of references, it is difficult to tell if there is original research present.
    • External links should be changed into references or moved to an external link section. They shouldn't be in the body of the article.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
    • While it seems that most of the pertinent information is included in the article, it is poorly organized, through the excessive use of lists, short sections and short paragraphs.
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
    • Galleries are generally discouraged, except when they add value to the article. I don't see how any of the images included in this article's gallery add significant value to the reader's experience.
    • Because of all of the other issues with the article, I have not reviewed image licensing.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

Because of the number of issues with this article, especially those related to references, I am failing this article. There is, I believe, too much work that needs to be done for it to happen in a reasonable time frame. Once the above issues have been addressed, the article may be brought back to GAN. Please let me know if you have any questions, Dana boomer (talk) 01:52, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Demographics

There is no citation for the language section here and it is incomplete. Maithili is a common language spoken here, as noted in the Jharkhand article and in my experience when traveling to Jamshedpur. 75.144.47.117 (talk) 18:15, 1 July 2011 (UTC)kdm

Major changes to the article

The article needs to be revised a lot to meet the GA article standard. To start with one of the contentions is the faulty layout of sections. Hence i propose to remove the sections of the city sub-section and significant trimming of the Places of Interest sub-section. This has been proposed as the reviewer for GA class nomination pointed out to the rationale behind such sections. No other good wiki Indian city article has such sections.-- devx101 [TALK] 19:57, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

As no objections were raised i guess the recommendation of reviewer should be accepted. The sections of the city sub-section will be deleted. The rationale behind this decision is that no other city page of India has such a section as this information serves no purpose from encyclopaedic point of view. One can see the layout of the following cities http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_million-plus_agglomerations_in_India .-- devx101 [TALK] 11:40, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Wrong Population details

I dunno who entered wrong details in Population field although i have corrected it. see the correct population as of 2001 [1].

Also Jamshedpur comes under East Singhbhum district. Jamshedpur's population can't exceed its District population. Amar Kumar 06:03, 4 October 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amaroks (talkcontribs)

First of all the posted population of 2001 is way to outdated. The census figures of urban agglomerates will come by 2012 till then we can use provisonal/estimated figures without any serious problems. hence i have taken the data from [[1]] as a refernce for time being.

Secondly jamshedpur's UA population comprises of both the urban populations of East singhbhum as well as some parts of serikella kharswan district (mainly Adityapur). -- devx101 [TALK] 21:31, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Edit war related to article Jamshedpur

It seems that the user [[2]] is inclined to start a edit war for the article Jamshedpur. As per wikipedia policy it is necessary for me to write in your talk page about the matter before escalating the same. Everyones view is required.

i.) The person is repeatedly editing that Bengali is a major conversational language. My major points are, I have been in this city since Childhood and being a bengali never found bengali to be a major conversational language.

ii.) The person is repeatedly making a new section of distance between major cities. please give your points as to why this section is important from encyclopaedic point of view? Is the same in consonance with article outline of other like category cities?

I would like to have a constructive argument on this before finalizing the matter. -- devx101 [TALK] 18:43, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

First of all the point ii) is not edited by me. I am NOT changing any distances. So better get your facts right.

I am only saying that Bengali is a major language in Jamshedpur. It was Bengalis who settled in Jamshedpur and if you do a head count even today you will find a lot of people speaking Bengali in Jamshedpur. In fact in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and also to an extent the 1990s Bengalis were a major population in Jamshedpur. I am a proud Bengali from Jamshedpur and want to keep Bengali as a major language in Jamshedpur. — Preceding unsigned comment added by L435534l (talkcontribs) 09:19, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Proposed merge with List of people from Jamshedpur

List of people from Jamshedpur should be merged within Jamshedpur parent article. AnupMehra 10:59, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

It should not be merged because editors have an habit of enlarging the list to such an extent that it becomes nuisance for the main article itself. Hence the same should be in a separate article. Only a few very prominent names are present from the sub artice in the main parent page. -- devx101 [TALK] 18:02, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Questionable statistics

Here's the statement from the article: "Jamshedpur has an average literacy rate of 82%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 71%."

How can this be?Fconaway (talk) 00:51, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

If Jamshedpur's average literacy rate is higher than both the male and female rates, that must mean that they have a significant number of people of a third sex with higher literacy. Perhaps the Hijra (South Asia) community? NRPanikker (talk) 05:36, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

I have made huge edits on Demographics. Please do not revert it, if it is poorly written, so once again please don't revert and instead of that you can correct it. Please. Thank You - Quetterry {talk) 10:40, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Other users have raised concerns about your edits over the past few days (I haven't seen the changes recently so I will other users decide and hold off the revert for a third opinion). First of all, please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:No original research. Even if you add a source, you cannot simply put in your own synthesis or opinions (a lot of your edits do include sources but it often includes a large amounts of unsourced text or opinions); it is not a personal essay to be written here. Especially with your edits promoting TATA in a positive light, this goes against WP:NOTOPINION where Wikipedia is not a means to promote a company or a point of view. Many sample text in that version seems to be opiniated. Another is that your edits do tend to include a lot of unreliable sources. Sources like tripadvisor.in, www.holidify.com are not reliable sources. Ssbbplayer (talk) 17:46, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Port

Tata Steel is banking on a new deep water port being developed on the mouth of Subarnarekha river in Odisha, to power the operations of its flagship Jamshedpur steel project where it operates a 10 million tonne mill. T V Narendran, global CEO & MD at Tata Steel said, “We have been serving the Jamshedpur steel plant through both Paradip and Dhamra ports. But we believe Subarnarekha would emerge as the best port for our Jamshedpur operations while the ports at Paradip and Dhamra would be best suited to serve our plants at Kalinganagar and Angul respectively. Strategically, all three ports would be important for us”. [3] - User:Userline — Preceding undated comment added 07:38, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
