His thoughts/feelings

I've been studying Jenner in history and the one thing everyone wants to know is, why did this child put his life on the line for Jenner to find out that if you caught cowpox you wouldn't catch smallpox. 81.178.231.177 17:30, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, this seems to raise ethical questions to me. Did Jenner coerce or deceive him in some way? Did the boy do it out of belief in the cause? Someone who knows more about Jenner, please elaborate! -npatchett

1) You're interpreting what happened in 1796 from a 21st century perspective. Life was completely different then.

2) Cowpox was known to be a mild infection.

3) If smallpox had occurred in the district it would have killed up to 40% or more.

4) Inoculation with smallpox was the accepted method for preventing the natural disease (Mollymouse (talk) 14:00, 16 March 2014 (UTC))

Reception section

Granted, modern ethical concerns would prohibit such a practice as human experimentation in the manner that Jenner performed his experiment, however the question arises, should that be in this article? Additionally, why would the section be called "reception" and not "modern ethical concerns"?Wzrd1 (talk) 18:39, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Recent vandalism (Sep 2021)

I reverted a series of edits that appear to have been made by kids discovering how to vandalize Wikipedia. They added their names to this page, leading to this FB profile and this one, two children who are friends on Facebook.

It might be worth semi-protecting this page if the vandalism continues.
