I’ve researched a lot about Dean’s life in the past few months and have worked hard to make this page more informative and accurate. I’m really getting tired of Carlstak reverting my edits and acting like he owns this page. It’s not fair. Kayjewel (talk) 12:28, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
- I've asked you to follow established guidelines, which you've resisted doing before, e.g., not leaving an edit summary, which you seem to do only when it suits you. Reverting an edit and asking an editor to discuss on talk page is the WP:BRD process, which you apparently don't respect. The guideline suggests that you state your case and try to win consensus here. You're not doing that. Carlstak (talk)
- What people usually do in cases like this is start an WP:RFC, and request input from the WP community. Rather than make accusations and saying "It's not fair", why don't you do that? If the community agrees with you, then the matter is settled. Carlstak (talk) 12:19, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
I apologize for not always leaving an edit summary. My page said “Retired” until a few months ago, when I started researching James Dean’s life. There are some things on Wikipedia I’m admittedly still not acquainted with. I won’t make anymore edits on this page, I just want to add the information about Dean’s Geraldine Page on this page because it’s new information not most people know about and Geraldine Page was an important figure in his short career. It doesn’t have to be under his “Personal Life” section. But why can’t I add it under the section about his career where it briefly discusses The Immoralist? Kayjewel (talk) 18:29, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not an unreasonable person, but I tend to act reflexively when it appears that someone doesn't want to edit collegially and follow guidelines. You've made some good contributions to the article, and I think you're a good editor. I looked at what you added again, in the article text as it appears to the reader, rather than in the editing page as I've been doing, and I've changed my mind. I think it's fine. No one else seems to have a problem with it, so I agree that in the Early career section would be a good place for it. I would suggest that in future, if someone reverts you and asks you to take your concerns to the talk page, do so and lay out your case as you've done here, because you've persuaded me that you're right. Good faith discussion is always the way to go, even if we don't always get the result we wanted, as has happened to me.;-) Sorry for the misunderstanding. Regards, Carlstak (talk) 02:43, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks I appreciate it. I apologize for giving attitude earlier. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to Wikipedia but I’m going to take your advice and start using the talk page if I find myself in this kind of situation again. Thanks again. Kayjewel (talk) 04:07, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
I was lastly wondering if I could re-add the information about a marriage certificate with the name “Pier” being found in Dean’s personal effects after his death? Kayjewel (talk) 04:26, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
- I appreciate your reply, Kayjewel. You don't need my "permission" to add something to the article, but it is good to ask for feedback on the talk page if you think someone might object to something. I don't have time to look at that now, but why don't you go ahead and add it? I can always look at it later. I realize that there was some collateral damage to edits you had made when I restored a previous version of the article, and I apologize for that, but I didn't have time to try to sort it out then. Thanks for your work. Regards, Carlstak (talk) 12:01, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
I understand, just wanted to make sure it was okay to add additional information. It’s all good re: the previous edits being removed. Thanks again Carlstak. Kayjewel (talk) 12:09, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
In the section youth culture and music. You may want to mention..
James Dean is also mentioned in Taylor Swift's song Style.."You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye And I got that red lip, classic thing that you like And when we go crashing down, we come back every time 'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style You've got that long hair slick back, white t-shirt And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt And when we go crashing down, we come back every time 'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style
His death
If a nurse attended and find a weak pulse but still a pulse, how could he as stated on the page “died instantaneously? Ps I’m not trying to be annoying or trolling etc, it’s a genuine question as taht kittle but on the page confused me a bit Scotsbhoy196771 (talk) 14:51, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- It confused me also because it's either one or the other. It should be fixed. 151.203.70.159 (talk) 07:47, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- I've fixed it by changing the text to read: "Dean's biographer George Perry wrote that a woman with nursing experience attended to Dean and detected a weak pulse, but he also contrarily wrote that "death appeared to have been instantaneous". Perry contradicted himself as far as I can see; I have a copy of his book and checked to be sure. Thanks to both of you for pointing this out. Carlstak (talk) 14:58, 21 November 2021 (UTC)

On September 21, 1975, The James Dean Museum opened to help continue James Dean's legacy. The James Dean Museum is located at 203 E Washington Street in Fairmount, Indiana, where James Dean was raised by his aunt and uncle and spent most of his life. The museum houses the world's largest collection of James Dean's personal belongings, which are on loan from the Winslow family. The museum includes his 1947 Czech 125cc motorcycle, 1955 Triumph TR5 Trophy 500cc motorcycle, clothing, movie props, photographs, letters, artworks, awards, and more! Since 1975, The James Dean Museum has sponsored the annual James Dean Festival. The festival is always held the last full weekend of September. It includes a huge car show, parade, carnival, vendors, and the world famous James Dean look-alike contest. Fairmount547 (talk) 18:22, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

what's with this part of the bio: and competed in public speaking through the Indiana High School Forensic Association.
Forensic? Meaning what? Source? 2600:100F:B09E:DB19:EE3A:9B4E:AEEF:1B1C (talk) 06:31, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
- I've added a source to the text. Surely you know how to use a search engine. Merriam-Webster says forensics is "the art or study of argumentative discourse". Stanford.edu says, "Forensics is the collective term for both speech and debate." Carlstak (talk) 13:12, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
This might be of interest.
Royston Ellis's working notes for his James Dean biography reveal the secret source who told him about Dean's same-sex relationships. Doug Weller talk 20:41, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, man, that tells an amazing story. The author, Jason Colavito, is an "independent scholar specializing in the study of fringe theories" according to his WP article, and he has only bachelor of arts degrees in anthropology and journalism. I think we still could mention his essay with a summary of these claims in the James Dean article. I've read both of Bast's two biographies of Dean, and this sounds plausible and in character for Bast. And what a character Royston Ellis was, "beat poet" indeed.;-) Carlstak (talk)
LGBT?
Why is he in all these LGBT categories, when it's up for debate? Some say he was, some say he wasn't. It's obvious he probably engaged in some same-sex activities, for whatever reason. Lots of gay people have had sex with the opposite sex, we don't slam them into "Straight actors from California." There's debate to this day.. and while I'm sure many would like him to be on "their team", this is an enyclopedia, not a fan site. Mercster (talk) 06:51, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
- Agreed. I've been saying the same thing about his sexuality since forever. The debate about categories has been going on here for years. I stay away from them, considering them a massive energy suck. Carlstak (talk) 11:02, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

James Dean is referenced in Lana Del Rey’s song Blue Jeans 146.90.236.231 (talk) 23:00, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Read the template text directly above your non-request. Besides, the last thing this article needs is an ever-growing list of every passing mention of him in songs. Carlstak (talk) 23:17, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
James Dean (sexuality)?
I recently stumbled onto the redirect "James Dean (sexuality)". Typically, the parentheses would be used to indicate a disambiguation between two things with the same name, e.g., Ace of Spades (novel) and Ace of Spades (novel). As such, "James Dean (sexuality)" would mean that "James Dean" is a sexuality, like homosexuality and asexuality. ... Just... why? Significa liberdade (talk) 16:32, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
