James C. Tison Jr. re WWII
[edit]As a USC&GS Ensign and Ltjg from 11/30 1962 to 12/1/1964, my (word of mouth) understanding was that Admiral Tison was in the Marines during WWII. And at night prior to the battle of Leyte, he used a fishing boat to survey the harbor for the landing. He had been promised flag rank if he stayed in the Marines, but returned to the USC&GS.
