dates of education
The article states, " In 1937 he began his studies at Fordham University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in English. He wanted to become a journalist but his father convinced him to study law at Harvard University, where he earned a bachelor of laws in 1940. " No reference was given. If true, Donovan would have earned two degrees in three years instead of the customary seven. Is the writing badly constructed, or is it true? 108.87.100.143 (talk) 07:23, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- You were correct, the date was wrong. He began at Fordham in 1933, graduated in 1937 there, after which he entered Harvard Law in autumn 1937, and then finished his law degree there in 1940. Philip Bigger's biography of Donovan provided the answer, which I have cited. Thanks for pointing out the error. fjarlq (talk) 08:44, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
"Board of Intergration"
The quote "A Board of Education, not a Board of Integration" was very interesting to me. I cannot find any instance of him saying that. I found a source quoting him saying "We're running a board of education, not a board of transportation", which has a fundamentally different meaning, as the state was struggling to meet integration requirements set off by the SCOTUS decision from a logistical perspective. The quote in the article implies he was opposed to intergration, for which I can find no evidence. I'm sitting on a plane, stuck waiting for a gate, in a snowstorm in Boston, using only my phone. As such I'm not well suited to make the article edit. As I'll likely forget, if another editor sees this in the future and can verify please make the change. 166.171.186.165 (talk) 02:54, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
- I'm removing the quotation; without a source, it's a violation of MOS:QUOTE. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 05:45, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Confirmation of "Britt"
I am unable to confirm Donovan's middle name "Britt". Adamdaley (talk) 10:28, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- NYT Gog the Mild (talk) 11:47, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- The majority of sources have him as "Britt" but I have a book calling him "Joseph" as a middle name. Adamdaley (talk) 12:06, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Adamdaley: He changed his name at some point. See here. Eddie891 Talk Work 12:53, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Great! Now I have a source for the name change. I have this book in question. Thanks for your help! Adamdaley (talk) 02:06, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
Shots fired at his home + awards before 2016?
It might improve the article if some editor could find some WP:RS giving either confirmation or denial of the bit in the movie Bridge of Spies in which shots are fired at his home because of his defense of Abel. Tlhslobus (talk) 02:20, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
Incidentally, it also seems strange that we have no awards listed for him until 2016, which is shortly after the 2015 movie Bridge of Spies. Have we simply not yet included awards before that, or is there something else going on (such as him being denied awards for political reasons, or because our story possibly overstates his true role, or whatever)? Once again the article might be improved if some editor could find some WP:RS giving some of this info. Tlhslobus (talk) 02:20, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
