NAME
[edit]Isn't his middle name Jake? Someone keeps deleting it.
DDT
[edit]'...and his signature DDT finishing maneuver, which he invented.' Is this factual? I did not believe Jake was the first to use the DDT, nor to call it the DDT. 22/12/05 - shockeroo
Yes, he invented it and was the first to name it the DDT. Im putting this under a header (MCU)
He did not invent it. While Len Denton claims he came up with it by accident in 1981/1982, here it is being used in 1977 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOv0Gft4uTA&t=253s).

Name of the snakes
[edit]"each was invariably called Damien"... I distinctly remember at least one of them being called Lucifer. Anyone else care to back me up on this? Anthony Hit me up... 02:50, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- Jake had at least three snakes during his WWF tenure:
- Damien (during his initial heel run and face run)
- Lucifer (after he turned heel again in 1991)
- He used a cobra to attack Randy Savage, which set up Savage's return from retirement (though this might have been Lucifer)
- Revelations (during his 1996 run where he played up the "born-again" gimmick
- I don't recall the cobra ever having a name though. I remember this event; it created an uproar at the time from animal rights activists for the incident (the snake had been defanged, obviously). But I don't remember it having a name. --Eat At Joes 03:04, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- The cobra never had a name, but they said it was a king cobra. I have no idea if the actual cobra they used was a real king cobra or some other type of cobra. Also, Lucifer was not a cobra "(thought this might have been Lucifer)" but another python, much larger than Damien, and was at least once refered to by Jake as being Damien's big brother.76.226.196.178 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 08:03, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- The snake had not been defanged, but had been devenomed. The original plan was for Savage to be bitten a second time, but because it took so long to get the snake off Savage the first time, Randy decided not to go ahead with the second bite. Vince also came down when it became apparent that Jake was having trouble removing the snake from Savage's arm. Jake himself told this to an assembly of talent during a break in a British Championship Wrestling training session. Draven Cage 16:38, 2nd September 2006

true?
[edit]Former WWF wrestler Jake the Snake is the result of father/daughter incest. Whether his mental problems and subsequent crack addiction in later life can be attributed to that, I guess we'll never know
Or so he claimed in the documentary I saw him in. Is it the kind of thing you'd tell a child?
No, Jake is NOT the result of father/daughter incest. His biological father, Grizzly Smith, raped the 13-year old daughter of the woman he was dating at the time (Jake's Grandmother), resulting in the conception of Jake. This is according to Roberts himself on both the Beyond the Mat DVD and his own documentary.

How come there is no mention of this in the article. Can this be put in the Personal Life section? (Thebandweekly 01:56, 11 January 2007 (UTC))

Discussion
[edit]This page should really be moved to "Jake Roberts" as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people) - according to one of the guidelines:
- don't add qualifiers (such as "King", "Saint", "Dr.", "(person)", "(ship)"), except when this is the simplest and most NPOV way to deal with disambiguation;
"The Snake" seems to fall under the category of qualifiers. Right now, Jake Roberts is a redirect to this article anyway. --Jtalledo (talk) 19:42, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- This is not a qualifier. It is a stage name. On the same WP page, below, you will find another guideline, and a fellow wrestler:
- The most used name to refer to a person is generally the one that Wikipedia will choose as page name, even if this sounds awkward...
- ...BG James, the most usual of the many stage names of the wrestler Brian (Gerard) James.
- I don't know anything about the particular Jake, but it seems likely that "The Snake" is almost an integral part of his name, and the name he's best known under, so I'm voting here from the principle. See e.g. Vladimir Petrović "Pižon" and the move history of the article. Duja 09:47, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not entirely sure how you can judge it since by your own admission, you don't know anything about him. "The Snake" part is not an integral part of his name - it's a nickname. He has been and can be referred to as "Jake Roberts" or "The Snake" or a combination of both. The only stage name the infobox refers to is "Jake Roberts." The article on Bret "Hitman" Hart, another professional wrestler is at Bret Hart not "Bret "Hitman" Hart". --Jtalledo (talk) 18:51, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- By "integral part" I mean "the way he is mostly referred to in public". I don't think either that his wife calls him "the Snake", or that it's written on his driver's license, but it's irrelevant. this Google search shows that he's always referred to as "Jake 'the Snake' Roberts". Which gets us back to WP naming guidelines I cited above—we also don't have Louise Veronica Ciccone but Madonna (entertainer) for example. Duja 11:38, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- If you look at most professional wrestlers, they are under their real names. Even someone like Mark Calaway, who has used the "Undertaker" name for many years is still at his real name, even though everyone calls him "The Undertaker." The same goes for just about any other professional wrestler. So the argument about Madonna and Google is rendered null. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan is at Jim Duggan. Jake Roberts should follow the first name, last name convention. --Jtalledo (talk) 17:39, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- If that's the common convention developed by WP:PW, then OK, but I maintain that it contradicts other common conventions. In a similar manner, WP:HOCKEY recently tried to "game the system" (to a more severe extent) by insisting of anglicizations of names of foreign NHL players. The result, as expected, was a clash with e.g. Czech editors and a mess of names in e.g. Category:Czech ice hockey players. Duja 09:36, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

24 hour protection
[edit]I went ahead and protected the page for 24 hours due to an ongoing WP:BLP debate. The claim if it can be substantiated in a more reliable source, is clearly notable, but MyClient, even from the individuals personal myClient account, is not sufficeint to overcome potential BLP violations.Balloonman (talk) 03:41, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think you may have misread the article. The claim was not that he is in rehab. The claim was that news sites have reported that he is in rehab. This was supported with a link to a news site. GaryColemanFan (talk) 17:25, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- I would also like to point out that the person who kept removing the rehab part has admitted that it's true, but is upset because they claim Roberts didn't want to reveal this fact yet (and yelled at Roberts family for confirming it on Roberts official MySpace page). So no one is denying that Roberts is in rehab. TJ Spyke 21:48, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
i dont belive anything in this about his "official" myspace page. when he moved in with DDP they had to teach him how to use a computer so he could set up a twitter page and all this myspace crap on here was years before that. Also on the ddptv youtube channel there is an interveiw with Scott Hall where he states that all social networking pages under his name were faked because he never made any of them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.20.58.155 (talk) 17:52, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
More Jake info
[edit]In a interview for the Masked Manic internet radio show that aired 04/09/2008, Jake says he has eight children. He also is said to have, since rehab, began working out again and added 35 lbs of muscle (so current weight is 290 lbs) but still had a gut that he wishes to lose.Rmccoy0017 (talk) 16:54, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Trained by?
[edit]Jake claimed on a RF video shoot that he was not trained by anyone. Says his father never helped him get into wrestling, so how did he train Jake? Titan012 (talk) 14:23, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Did not Jake wrestle for 5 or 6 years before coming to WWF? It is mentioned briefly in the summary paragraph, but the career section starts in 1986. Can someone add in the details of his time in Georgia and Mid-South. I believe he was an original member of the Legion of Doom in Georgia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.222.66.2 (talk) 20:36, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Listening to the conversation Jake had recently with Jim Ross, he was trained by Stu Hart to a degree. Around the 44:00 mark. Also mentioned earlier in the conversation, his father most likely did NOT train him since the nature of wrestling was revealed to him the first night he refereed. http://podcastone.com/The-Ross-Report Episode 08 --67.81.174.97 (talk) 04:04, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Children
[edit]on here it says he has five children 3 from his first marriage and 2 to Cheryl but on the link to the BBC page where he was charged with causing unnecessary harm to his snake damien it says he is a father of seven does anyone if he is a father of 5 or 7 (WorldSeriesOfPoker500 (talk) 05:54, 27 January 2012 (UTC))
New Picture/DDP
[edit]Hey guys.
I have a little online contact with Diamond Dallas Page. I'm going to ask him if we can use the picture at http://www.ddpyoga.com/site/index.php/en/results/222 (the one on the right, showing him now, after his transformation). Would everyone be cool with me replacing the picture if I get permission, considering it's at least a few years more recent? I'm going to ask him now. Someone may have to help me, if I get permission; I've never uploaded a file to Wikipedia before.

Reference to Sweet Saraya
[edit]I'm not sure what the exact mistake is here, but I thought I should point it out. Under the Great Britain section, it states that
'This did not involve challenging Zak Zodiac, son of Ricky Knight and Sweet Saraya, and who was only 13 at the time, to a fight, as has been previously stated by WAW.'
Sweet Saraya was born in the 1970s, so could not have been 13 years old at the time of the event. I don't know if this is a grammatical error and the author is referring to Zak Zodiac being 13 (I am unsure of his date of birth) or if the author is actually referring to Sweet Saraya's daughter, whose real name is Saraya-Jade (now better known as WWE's Paige) who would have been approximately 13 years old at the time.
Could someone who is more in the know suggest a re-write? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.185.218.242 (talk) 14:51, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
No rewrite is needed. The incident did not happen but was promoted at the time by WAW for cheap publicity at Jake's expense after he quit the company.
Recurring vandalism; lock page?
[edit]Fans of a wrestling podcast appear to be coordinating vandalism of this page to bring attention to a dispute between ex-wrestler Jerry Grey and Jake Roberts. Can this page be locked for a bit until this calms down? Ellipsis22 (talk) 03:49, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
Last night's Double or Nothing, and other events in his time managing Archer, should be discussed
[edit]I'm afraid that it concerns Jake's AEW storyline and does not at all violate the NPOV policy, as is not meant to be fan hype. It is already mentioned that he confronted Cody on March 4 and became the manager of Lance Archer on March 11. Last night's Double or Nothing was a major point in their feud.2601:447:4100:C120:F97E:ED6B:ABE3:1D13 (talk) 18:12, 24 May 2020 (UTC) I
