Criticism
[edit]The following has been added to the main article by DragonbreathJoe on 31 August 2019--Ymblanter (talk) 19:09, 31 August 2019 (UTC): Criticism: The temple is well known for keeping endangered species of turtles and tortoises. These species include, but are not limited to the impressed tortoise (Manouria impressa), the elongated tortoise (Indotestudo elongata), the Mekong snail-eating turtle (Malayemys subtrijuga) and the yellow-headed temple turtle (Heosemys annandalii ). Of these animals, none live communally but are kept in this manner at the temple. Not only that, but the monks take these animals to the Saigon River and dump them in it and consider that a 'mercy release'. There is nothing merciful about throwing any species into a habitat that it can not survive in. Elongated tortoises can not swim, impressed tortoises can swim, but live in slow moving, shallow ponds. Yellow-headed temple turtles live in lakes such as Tonlé Sap in Cambodia and Mekong snail eating turtles live in canals, ditches and rice paddies. None of them live in rivers and it is irresponsible for the temple to release them into the Saigon River.
