A fact from Jacob P. Perry House appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 28 October 2010 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
|
Ambiguous
[edit]It is one of the last houses in Rockland County built in the Dutch Colonial style more common before the American Revolution. Does this mean:
- It is one of the last houses in Rockland County to have been built in the Dutch Colonial style more common before the American Revolution.
- It is one of the last remaining houses in Rockland County built in the Dutch Colonial style more common before the American Revolution.

The first one. I reverted most of your changes because, while WP:MOSBEGIN does indeed say the reason for notability should come early on, it is not so specific as your edit summary suggested. I don't see what's wrong with a short first graf describing the building very sketchily in two sentences, then a second graf leading off with the reason for notability (Especially given the inherent notability that attaches to any NRHP listing. That fact is gleanable from the infobox right next to it).
I also removed the "American" because I think it's rather obvious to a reader that an American subject is being discussed and therefore the qualifier is not necessary. Daniel Case (talk) 03:21, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- The sketchy description tells us nothing worth really knowing about the house. It is simply poor writing style to have half a description in one short paragraph and the rest in the second paragraph. I have reuntied the two descriptions. Read both versions, and you will see that the editted version flows much better.
