Antithesis of Locke
On the page for John Locke it says he is the antithesis of Ben and Jack. Should this page have something according? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.12.154.220 (talk) 12:24, 4 October 2007 (UTC) An antithesis is more of the opposite to the protagonist, not the other way around.
Character Page Updates
Kramar, I like your re-write and reorganization of the page quite a lot. Very well done. Only thing I'd change (which I did) are the headings, since the fictional delineation of the crash and life on the island feels a lot better on a fictional series page than "pre-series" and "series", in my opinion. Anyway, what are your thoughts on doing this on all of the character pages? It's my opinion that there's quite a bit of randomness going on in the formats. We have the content, but not the organization. Baryonyx 19:39, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
- I did a similar organization at John Locke (Lost) prior to knowing about one here. I think all the Lost character pages should have this same structure. I added themes and basic facts. Basic facts is almost exactly what we had back at Characters of Lost. I think a good additional section is themes. Perhaps not every character needs or has a running theme, but most obviously do such as Jack and Locke. I think these should be noted in the article. K1Bond007 07:02, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- I'll look at what you've done at Locke shortly, since I'm doing the table for Flashback Characters on the Character page right now, but what I saw in my quick review of the Jack page looks great. If Locke looks like Jack, we have a winner, I think. I agree that we can add themes as important, especially as they relate to the themes cited on the main page. Now that these characters have more "room", we can do something very similar to what was originally on the character page, but with nicer formatting. Just need to keep all the speculation to a minimum, and keep page sizes down. Baryonyx 20:33, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
Tattoo?
Is there any info on Jack's upper-arm tattoo? If it's a real tattoo, the producers haven't made any attempt to hide it. If it's fake (i.e. part of the show) then what is the meaning of it? Didn't Kate ask him about it and he brushed off the question?
- The tattoo in question is Matthew Fox's, but no attempts have been made to hide it, and it is worked in into the plot. Kate asks Jack about his tattoos in one of the eps.
- In a recent interview with Kristin on E! Online, Damon Lindelof explained that the tattoos are Matthew Fox's, but for Lost purposes, they are also Jack's. Matthew Fox is extremely secretive about the meaning of the tattoos in real life, butMr. Lindelof explained that the solution to what these tattoos mean for Jack is known and should be on the air this season (but season 3 is a possibility. Baryonyx 04:22, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
I think tatoo info should be added as section to Jack's page. Feels kind of important. Noblige
Jack's father
Jack's father was confirmed to be dead by Jack Shephard in the hospital.
But, when Jack opens the coffin, in the epsisode that he finds the caves (Episodes of Lost (season 1) - White Rabbit),
Christian (his father) is not in it
Have you wondered where "the body" might be?
Any thoughts about this?

- We don't know and, as a Wikipedians, we don't care... he's not in the coffin, period. This is not a place to discuss this. NowotnyPL 17:12, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- The boar probably got it. Morhange 23:14, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Who knows? maybe he came alive. Stranger things have happened. (It will probably be the plot twist around Season 23 or so) :)
Does everybody hate him?
As I didn't see a "criticism" section of the article and was a bit wary of reading through the main text (I just finished season one and want to avoid spoilers) but my friends as well as numerous forum posters seem to think Jack is the worst character on the show. I happened to think he was one of the best characters, so I was wondering if this is a common thing to dislike Jack or if I'm not so weird in thinking he's cool... -albrozdude 05:13, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- He's not so much a bad character, just boring. (Even the other characters think he's boring, like when Kate says "Nothing wrong with fun, Jack. You should try it some time.") Battle Ape 05:28, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Right, well at least his character is more interesting than Kate. Both of them are rather stale, and that's the problem.IdentityS (talk) 01:48, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Dr. Jack Shephard
Seeing as all the other pages for main characters include the characters' full title, should this page not be called 'Dr. Jack Shephard'? SergeantBolt 13:27, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I was wondering that as well. I was just informed that the arctle titles are supposed to match the names given on ABC's website, which for Jack does indeed include the Dr.. DocNox 03:19, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Main Character Citation Needed
It's clear that he leads the show but apparently we need a citation so here's a site, http://www.tonight.co.za/?fSectionId=346&fArticleId=3117026 that says he was granted a $250 000 bonus for starring. "Needless to say, when offered the pivotal role of Jack, and now earning a cool $80 000 (R492 000) per episode plus a $250 000 (R1,5-million) bonus for the lead in the second season, he is now happy to move between theatre and TV. Not bad for a guy who was supposed to have been killed off in Lost's pilot episode." So can someone add it. I haven't learned how to cite sources using the new format yet. --154.20.217.225 17:57, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Jack Sheppard, jailbreaker
Does anyone think it's worthwhile to mention that Jack's name is almost identical to the name of a famous eighteenth-century criminal, Jack Sheppard? Solemnavalanche 04:53, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
No, probably just a coincidence (unless it is said somewhere otherwise).Everyoneandeveryone (talk) 02:08, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Anger Management Needed
Any other fans of the show think that Jack needs some anger management classes, or maybe some mood altering drugs. It seem he spends most of his time pissed off or ready to threaten physical violence, instead of calmly and rationally trying to deal with things. Especially the Others.
As the blogger who came up with "You Uncurious Bastards" (a critique of the lack of basic curiosity by the Lost characters) might say "Jack, chill out. You'll get more flies with honey, than vinegar" with the Others.
Tattoo
Is there any evidence that Jack's tattoo is a sak yant? A note or two would be good to clarify if Fox have had this tattoo prior to the making or the show or was this a "fake" tattoo designed specifically for this series? Also anyone caught what Isabelle was reading off of Jack's tattoo while he was jailed? It was probably some badly attempted mandarin which made it all the more difficult to dicipher. Isabelle's preceived interpretation of the chinese phrase (or possibly the tattoo as a whole) also has no relation to its actual meaning. --Kvasir 01:06, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Some speculation here and here. —XhantarTalk 02:10, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Jacklost.PNG
Image:Jacklost.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

tattoo grows
Anyone notice how Jack's tattoo keeps growing. He obviously has work done between series. The inside of his upper arm is nearly all covered by now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.149.105.101 (talk) 23:26, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure, maybe you are right, he has some stars in the inside of his upper arm, but he also has the in the game. Maybe we haven't notised this. Also he has a tatoo on his back, but it's small. It can be seen in the episode "Eggtown", where he is only with a towel. --Batman tas (talk) 11:45, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Moses
I added the following to the Character notes section:
Jack featured with a long beard in flashforwards in Seasons III and IV, which were later revealed to be three years following the rescue in There's No Place Like Home are biblical allusions to Moses. Jack was compared to Moses by Naomi Dorrit in Through the Looking Glass, and at the end of Season IV it was revealed that like Moses, Jack must led an exodus of his people back to the island (Promised land)
It was subsequently deleted as original research. I do not see this addition as original research but as a depiction of a biblical allusion used in the show. What do the primary editors of this article feel about this addition?--William Saturn (talk) 04:33, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- If there is confirmation that the beard is a biblical allusion, then all means cite the confirmation. Lots42 (talk) 21:05, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Long entry
It seems like this page is extra long, and basically gives an entire "Lost" recap focused on Jack, rather than giving recaps of Jack's significant events. I realize this character is central, but is necessary to rehash the whole show? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrguido45 (talk • contribs) 19:59, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Not the most flashbacks
It says Jack has had the most flashbacks. This is not true, he has had the most centric episodes. As of season 4 Locke has had the most flashbacks with 8, one more than Jack. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.89.90.21 (talk) 06:02, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Are we counting episodes like "Exodus" where Jack AND several other characters have flashbacks?Everyoneandeveryone (talk) 02:11, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Jack has had the most "centric" episodes. –thedemonhog talk • edits 02:53, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Help with references
Matthew Fox (actor)#Awards has a list of awards Fox has won and been nominated for for his work on Lost, but they're not referenced, and I don't know if I can put them on this page without references. Everyoneandeveryone (talk) 02:10, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- References can be found for all awards at List of Lost awards and nominations. —97198 (talk) 12:52, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Ridiculously long Season 4+
The sections for season 4, after the island, & return to the island are strangely long compared to the rest of the article. Considering season 4 is itself SHORTER than the previous seasons, it seems strange. A whole paragraph is devoted to the rescue of the Oceanic 6. The after the island is longer than before the island, and the idea that just the 'return' needs a whole section is beyond me.88.108.156.27 (talk) 21:51, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Personality section
I feel as though some of the info here is rather the writer's opinions rather than anything actually stated in the series (i.e. Jack's supression of his feelings with Kate). Also, I though he became a drug addict and alcoholic because he started seeing visions of his father, lost Kate, and the combination of drugs and alcohol wasn't good, rather than any trauma from the island. Also I don't think that Jack thinks Claire is dead, given that Kate didn't. 86.177.190.34 (talk) 19:40, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Plus, the island made it very unclear as to whether death actually -works-. Lots42 (talk) 21:05, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Drowning survivors
The bit about Jack's first day is confusing. Is the 'drowning survivors' part of the surviving forty-seven? Lots42 (talk) 21:04, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
